Sex Ed rant: I was recently on an online parenting group and a parent had posted a photo of a hand out from a grade 9 sexual education course where they had a definition of sex and a definition of sexuality. I tend to start my courses off with definitions of sex (biological sex), gender, sexual orientation, and other terms that can come up.

I’ll never forget my first unionized job (CUPE 500), at 19, I was told to take a break and I was like “oh it’s ok, I don’t need a break, I’m good.” My colleague said “take your break because we earned it and some of us need them.” That lesson stuck with me. I strongly believe that every workplace needs that union battle axe that tells the young whipper snappers what’s what and gives then their first initiation into the concept of solidarity.

Another Glenwood infill thread
I won’t speak to other neighbourhoods because Glenwood is where I live and what I know. Staying in my lane.
I hear many comments about changing neighbourhood character. This is true. Since moving to the area 5 or so years ago, I would say that some streets are now mostly infill houses whereas before they were mostly 1.5 storey peace time homes and the occasional 1920ies 1 storey cottage-like houses.

The restrictive zoning elsewhere in the city makes it hard to build infill. My street (in Glenwood) has lots that are 2 feet shy of being subdivisible. We have had a vacant derelict house in front of ours for over a year. Infill is rejuvenates communities and prevents stagnation Glenwood, where I live (Where I’ll note Mr Lamont does not) does not have an infill problem. Our city has a sprawl problem and Glenwood is one of the few places where densification is possible.

If you prefer me cheerful and positive, don’t read this tweet.
Dear Brian Bowman,
Today was the penultimate council meeting of your administration. Your term has been so bland and without vision that a significant chunk of Winnipeg is thinking fondly about our ex (mayor). You could have been the mayor that left office making our streets marginally safer for vulnerable road users. Instead, you will be remembered as the mayor that chickened out of opening Portage and Main.

Som abortion thoughts: I teach sex ed and when I explain the menstrual cycle, I emphasize that if you are expecting your period, it’s one day late, and you take a pregnancy test, if it comes back positive, you are considered 4 weeks + 1 day into your pregnancy. Students look confused. How could you be 4 weeks pregnant? What if you only had sex two weeks ago? Well, a pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual cycle.

So this is a shitty drawing of what happened yesterday. Purple indicates where our group was riding, pink is where we transitioned to being pedestrians to cross at the ped ex. Yellow is where I corked. Red is the car that went into oncoming traffic. That point where red meets purple is exactly where Félix and Olivier (6 and 5) happened to be when they were crossing DLC to reach the ped X to get across Taché. It was a very narrow miss.
