NEW PAPER! Habitat restoration is ramping up to help recover caribou habitat and populations – does it work? We found restoring seismic lines reduced travel speed of wolves, bears, and caribou. What does this mean? Read on and check out doi.org/10.1111/cobi.1…
Caribou pops across much of Canada are declining, fast – why? Partially because humans have altered the boreal; harvesting forests, extracting oil and gas, and creating linear features (roads, seismic lines, pipelines, etc.) to access these resources. doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…

NEW PAPER ALERT! We evaluate how the ability of wolves to exploit their resources through movement interacts with resource density to influence home range size. The paper is highly couched in theory, but has strong application ties. My favorite combination! Read along.
Consumers have smaller home ranges in areas with abundant resources. ⬆️food = ⬇️area needed to make a living. But, how does the ability of a consumer to access those resources impact the relationship? Can facilitated access to resources increase the “effective resource density”?

NEW PAPER ALERT! Habitat loss is a main contributor to caribou declines across Canada. But, how much caribou habitat is lost each year vs. what’s gained as trees regrow? One average, caribou ranges lost twice as much habitat as they gained. doi.org/10.1111/CSP2.4…
Caribou habitat loss isn’t news – we’ve seen news reports of caribou habitat loss for years. But the RATE of habitat loss hadn’t been quantified.
