I love winners when they cry, losers when they try. Music when it's good. And life.

Some people have seen this as a defense of GEN Milley. It’s not, it it is an attempt to decide how I feel about the actions of the CJCS over the last 14 month or so. I’m going to acknowledge a few things up front:

I’ve only been a tactical level guy

I only have a bachelors

I fuck up in my decision making all the time.

“Sir, it’s great that you smacked Miller down, but why are we just now hearing that the White House wanted to gun down protesters?” Image “Christ, son. How would it look if I started leaking information about my arguments with the President in an election year” Image

Way back when I was a 2LT in the winter of 2008 I listened to a speaker on KUOW talk about whether the Puget Sound Region was prepared to accommodate 5-20million climate refugees by 2040.

It seemed pretty remote back then. Just be-bopping along, Christmas shopping for a new purse for my then-semi serious GF.

I just saw on FB that one of the young Specialists that I used to work with has graduated college.

He once talked to me about his ambition to be an officer and I was like

“Why do you want to be an officer?”

Which was a question that absolutely stumped him. I wasn’t trying to stump him, but it’s a question you must have a ready answer for. And “I want to lead Soldiers” doesn’t cut it, because if that’s what you want you should be an NCO. Direct leadership is a small fraction of what officers do.

Physical barriers exist over most federal lands that are on the US/Mexico border. Natural barriers create severely restricted terrain for dismounted movement over the rest. This is the best distillation of our border security efforts I’ve seen.
