(1/8) Pro-life friends, here are some comments on the @propublica piece.
It purportedly shows that pro-life policies have led to an increase in Sepsis cases.
There is less here than meets the eye.
(2/8) Taking their data at face value, since the TX Heartbeat Act took effect, the average annual increase in sepsis cases (involving pregnancy loss) was 28.
Sepsis is a serious issue. But there has not been an enormous surge in sepsis cases involving pregnancy loss.

(1/6) Pro-lifers, I'm sure many of you have seen the latest @JAMAPediatrics study which claims that the Texas Heartbeat Act increased infant deaths in 2022.
It has received saturation coverage from the mainstream media.
There's less here than meets the eye. Here's my analysis.
(2/6) Infant deaths increased in TX. However, this is partly because more babies were born.
Because of the TX Heartbeat Act, TX births increased by over 16,000 in 2022.
When the infant mortality rate (instead of infant deaths) is considered, the increase is less dramatic.

(1/7) Pro-life friends,
Many have asked for some commentary about the recent JAMA Internal Medicine study which claims that about 64,000 children have been conceived in rape in states that have enacted strong pro-life laws post-Dobbs,
Well here you go!
(2/7)
This is one of the most biased and flawed pieces of research that I have seen in my years as a social scientist.
The fact that it was published in a peer reviewed journal gives it respectability and credibility that it simply does not deserve

(1/6) Pro-life friends, @CNN is reporting that infant mortality rate in Texas dramatically increased in 2022.
Unsurprisingly, their spin is that the increase was caused by the Texas Heartbeat Act which took effect in September 2021.
For several reasons this is misleading.
(2/6) The TX infant mortality rate data is not publicly available. We do not have a good sense of where these deaths are happening. It is possible that increased rate of illegal immigration might have played a role.

(1/11) Pro-life friends, here is some analysis of the recent @WSJ poll on abortion.
It purportedly shows that 60 percent of Americans think abortion should be legal in "all or most cases"
(2/11) Since Dobbs there has been a gain in sentiment in favor of legal abortion by about 5 to 6 percentage points.
(1/7) Pro-Lifers, it was a tough night in Kansas. There are still more votes to be counted, but things do not look good for the "Value Them Both" Amendment.
Please do not despair, this was going to be an uphill battle for pro-lifers for a couple reasons.
(2/7) First, a good body of academic research shows that money plays a large role in who wins statewide ballot propositions.
Since abortion is a multi-billion dollar industry subsidized by taxpayers, our opponents can almost always outspend us.

(1/8) A new @Gallup poll shows a gain in pro-choice sentiment. However, pro-lifers need not be worried -- here's why
(2/8) The poll shows 55% of Americans identify as "pro-choice." This is a 5 percentage point gain from the last Gallup poll taken in May 2021.
Regardless of how the questions were worded, there was a 5-6 percentage point gain in favor of legal abortion since last year's poll,

(1/19) @philvischer & @SkyeJethani, I saw your video that questions whether overturning Roe is the key to reducing abortion.
Glad you're interested in the data. Evidence from the past 40 yrs shows electing pro-life candidates has helped reduce the U.S. abortion rate by over 50%
(2/19) Overturning Roe is not an all or nothing proposition. Since 1973, Republican-appointed judges have not succeeded in overturning Roe v. Wade. However, Republican-appointed Supreme Court judges have upheld a variety of life-saving pro-life laws. These include:
