I went to visit Tennessee Williams' grave in St. Louis (my grandparents are buried there, and it wasn't far from them). It was tucked away in a corner of the cemetery, overlooking a school bus parking lot. I guess I wanted him to know he was remembered. I recently learned that Jackie Wilson is buried only about 20 minutes from me, and when snow melts, I'll go see him. I also want to visit Aretha's grave at some point. Mainly, it's the historic connection, and the idea of paying respects.

Reading @jeligon thread is a reminder that issues of inequity run deeper than a single person or a single leader. It’s the institution. Having a woman editor did not make things equitable for the women at the NYT. A Black editor is not doing the same for Black staff. Big media in general was established by white males and it perpetuates a white male power structure. For proof, look at the reprimands that go out.

As I’ve been writing @CurbingCars the past few years, carmakers are dumping SUVs and pickups on the market now, while 1) boomer males are still buying light trucks and 2) governments still allow them to sell them. Within 10-15 years, that ability runs out. This isn’t about shifts in buyer tastes. It’s a pure profit move by the car companies to maximize revenue now as they retool for EVs. The margins on them will be non-existent for years, but if they don’t make the switch, they will be locked out of numerous markets.

Which 20th century pop artist or group deserves a Broadway musical? I’ll start: The Fifth Dimension. They were huge. Huge. And still tour. Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. have been married for almost 52 years.

Before editors assign “college towns will be battered without football” stories, take this into account: they’ve already been battered. Since March, many college towns have had no winter/spring sports (basketball, baseball, track), commencements, weddings, summer sports camps, conventions, summer classes or campus visits. Not to mention art fairs, 5Ks, midnight madness, and other touristy events.

Let’s remember something. Bernie Sanders won 46% of pledged Dem delegates in 2016. He beat Clinton in a number of states, including MI. He isn’t a fringe candidate who has come out of nowhere. This early lead builds on last time. As with Trump, if the Dems had a problem with Sanders running as a Democrat, they missed their chance to stop him. That horse left the barn years back.

This won’t get as much attention as @amazon leaving LIC, but the two stories signify a sea change in the relationship between big companies and municipalities. All my adult life, I’ve watched companies snap their fingers and cities/states come running. It was an unequal balance, with companies holding the upper hand.

I keep reading that refugee children may never be reunited with their parents. Why weren’t the kids issued something like a hospital wristband, with their names and that of a parent? It could list the last known home town. B) If the parents filed for asylum, DHS would have their info, including names of their children and birthdates. It wouldn’t be that hard to match them up.

We're at a point where people think a story didn't get coverage if the coverage didn't get good play. That's a different animal. What's good play? Top story on a network newscast, high up on a home page, repeatedly tweeted or searched on social?
