I think most housing opponents aren’t bad people, but still do harm. Some like to feel like it’s progressive to oppose change, but most opposition to this plan is, well, conservative, and progressives that oppose it too should take note

🧵, starting with this classism

Immigration fear-mongering, highly progressive of course :/

Setting up the call now. T-10 minutes or so.

Let's get some attainable housing (smaller, cheaper market rate units than single family homes basically) done people! Some confusion as to if we have 2 or 3 minutes. I suppose I know what I can cut if I need. Such is life.

So you should read this whole piece by @CaseyAndersonPB and @lisagovoni, but I want to draw your attention to this part in particular.

When “luxury” housing isn’t built, people buy cheaper housing and push people out, raising prices. All supply helps.

bit.ly/3qlSjpx ImageImage No it’s not a cure all, nothing is. But this concept is openly mocked by many, including @Marc_Elrich, on a regular basis and that’s a problem.

We need to kitchen sink this housing crisis with market and non market solution. Kudos to Casey and Lisa for showing that.

Would be real real nice if this addressed the need for zoning reform, increased density and walkability, and reducing car dependency. Spoiler alert. Unless they changed it from when the post (and I) read the draft last, it doesn’t. washingtonpost.com/local/md-polit…
