Maj Gen Ggwanga was previously incarcerated as a prisoner of war for 897 days, in both Uganda and Tanzania. In 1978, the Tanzania (TPDF) invaded Uganda. In April they captured Kla and deposed Idi Amin. Kasirye Ggwanga surrendered and was taken to Tanzania,as a POW. #NBSUpdates Three months after Ggwanga's release, (UFA) rebels led by Andrew Kayiira attacked the army barracks at Mengo the government in power at the time, led by Obote of the (UPC) mistakenly thought that the recently released prisoners were involved in the attack.
