In June 2020 I reported a historic sexual assault from 2013. At the beginning of April my driving school teacher pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced. This was his second offence.
Until today, I was barred from publicly talking about it.
The Superior Court of Justice finally lifted the publication ban on my name this morning, and I now have the freedom to share whatever I want about my experience of being assaulted, reporting to police, navigating the legal system, and coming out the other side intact.

Wednesday was a huge day for me. But I can’t talk about it. If I do, it would constitute a breach of a statutory publication ban on my own name. One that I didn’t even know existed until this week, that I can’t lift on my own, and that I have to petition a judge to remove.

This ban is automatic, and it claims to be in my best interest and the interest of other victims reporting similar crimes. It’s not.

It occurred to me that the public service job advertisements I post could benefit from some decoding.
First up: the various contract types and what you can expect because not all job offers are created equally or are subject to the same requirements. You deserve to know!
👇🏽
You'll want to pay attention to the classification of the job you're applying for (eg EC-4).
👉🏻The first two letters (EC) tell you the type of work
👉🏻The number (4) tells you the level
The higher the number, the more advanced. So a PM-2 is entry-level, while EC-7 is a manager.

Hiring processes that are opaque make it hard for talented people to join the Public Service- especially those coming from outside the NCR and who face systemic barriers.
To help shine a light on how to join GAC, a thread of (mostly) entry-level jobs to get in the door ⬇️⬇️⬇️
If you’re a student, apply for Co-op and FSWEP jobs. This will help you get a security clearance, which is like gold. You can get a foot in the door and start networking.
