5 PR disasters of Tamil Film Celebrities in 2024 🧵 Image 1. #Nayanthara's attack on Dhanush before her Netflix documentary's release was seen as a PR stunt by many, while she & husband Vignesh Shivan maintained that it was in retaliation to years of 'personal vendetta' by #Dhanush.

Nayanthara even released the list of 25 major production banners from Tamil, Telugu & Hindi film industries which let her use their respective IP for free, as opposed to Dhanush's Wunderbar Films which demanded a legal damage of Rs. 10 Cr. for using #NaanumRowdyDhaan footage. However little is known if any of this helped in the OTT viewership of #NayantharaBeyondTheFairytale.Image

#Indian2FromJuly12 is around the corner, and the monumental hype for #Indian2, the second film of director Shankar's franchise starring #KamalHaasan, is due to the lasting impact of the first part.

Some interesting facts on the OG #Indian movie: Image 1. Core Idea was Reverse Approached

#Shankar felt that movies on big scale corruption were by and large in Tamil cinema, & wanted to address the everyday issue of petty bribery, a very relatable & direct issue for a common man. The director himself had been affected by this during his college days, while trying to get certificates at government offices.

The filmmaker thought that the right person to address this Rs. 50/100 bribery problem should be someone who was part of India's freedom fight, a follower of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose considering the anger, boldness & skills required. Once Shankar fixed this character (Senapathy), his age & everything, the director reverse approached the subject & story of #Indian #Indian2Image

🧵#19YearsOfAnniyan

We all know the success of #Anniyan, a mammoth box office hit that added a big feather to #Vikram's cap, continuing his streak of successes. However, Anniyan was not an easy project. #Shankar faced several obstacles and challenges before bringing this mammoth film to life.

Here is a thread to share some interesting facts and behind-the-scenes details about Anniyan.Image The Tough Battle:

In 2001, Shankar put his dream project with Kamal (Robo) on hold indefinitely due to creative differences and unavailability of dates. He later began work on Boys in 2002, which, upon release, faced negative public opinion and underperformed in Tamil Nadu. His reputation as a director was at stake, having never seen flops before. His last hit was in 1999 with Mudhalvan. It was during this challenging period that he joined forces with Vikram.

Shankar's original team idea included PC Sreeram for cinematography, AR Rahman for music, and Aishwarya Rai for the lead actress. However, due to conflicting schedules and delays, Shankar opted for Harris Jayaraj for music and Sadha for the heroine. Manikandan and Ravi Varman handled the camera work. Shankar's initial plan to complete the film in 6 months extended to 14 months due to several unforeseen delays.

🧵: #17YearsofSivaji - A Technically Challenging Film of Its Time!

#SivajiTheBoss (2007) was the most hyped film of it's time, uniting Superstar #Rajinikanth and Tamil Cinema's most sought-after director Shankar. Unlike #Enthiran, a sci-fi film that relied heavily on technical advancements, #Sivaji was a proper commercial flick that presented significant technical challenges, all masterfully handled by Shankar and his team.

Read on for an interesting thread about the technical challenges, the team overcame:Image Shankar is known for grandeur in his films, and "Sivaji" is his most ambitious commercial project. Filming took 14 months, with only 65 days for talkie portions; the rest was dedicated to songs and action sequences. Shankar's vision demanded this effort.

For "Vaaji Vaaji," art director #ThottaTharani built a four-story Babylonian palace in 30 days at Ramoji Rao Film City, featuring 80 to 100 dancers. #KVAnand, filming with Super 35 mm, faced challenges in lighting the massive set. The single song cost ₹3.5 crore. "Vaaji Vaaji" exemplifies Shankar's grand vision.Image

Intro songs - an almost forgotten genre in Tamil Cinema

In the good old days of #TamilCinema, intro songs held a certain cadence wrt to the story the movie was about to unleash. Intro songs were either about the lead character, their back story, or simply a celebration song amping the hero, sometimes even imparting wisdom.

Intro songs in movies are a dying genre these days, because of the shift towards crisper runtime & lesser reliance on music as an USP.

🧵Ilaiyaraja & Copyright

With #Ilaiyaraja sending notices back to back to filmmakers regarding the use of his music, Moviecrow brings you a 360-degree view on:

What this is basically about
What the starting point is
What "Special Moral Rights" Ilaiyaraja obtained legally & more Image What This Is Basically About

Usually, when music is produced for a film, the master ownership belongs to the film producer, who might sell it outright or for recurring revenue (sold only for a certain time period) to a music label. The label, after exploiting it on streaming platforms (in digital era) or through physical copies, shares revenue with all the associated artists like music composers, singers and lyricists (a minor share) . To date, the layman has no insight into whether or not artists are paid their due.

In Tamil, popular "Enjoy Enjaami" artists Dhee, Arivu, and Santhosh Narayanan *have complained about not getting* their share of royalties from the music label.
