This morning, the 2019 Listed Building Consent Application for the demolition of the ‘C’ listed former ABC #Glasgow Cinema 👀👇 goes before the Planning Applications Committee. On behalf of Glaswegians they have to weigh this up and decide what matters most for our city 🧐🤷‍♂️? 1/5 Now covered in graffiti and overpainted in bright colours, this is architect Charles McNair’s grand classical entrance arch of 1929 which adorns the former ABC Glasgow Cinema on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street. Is it:
1 The owner’s evident desire for a cleared site which will undoubtedly raise its value;
2 Building Control wanting a potential threat to public safety gone; or,
3 Saving a great symbol of Glasgow’s golden age of cinema which has significant social heritage value 🤔? 2/5 This is the facade of the former ABC Glasgow Cinema in August 2024 with fencing in place after a Dangerous Building Notice was served. The arches of the ‘C’ listed facade are braced and supported by a frame of steel beams.

Was packing up to head home, when a lovely European couple knocked on the door of @GlasgowHeritage. They wanted to know all about #Glasgow. Well, they came to the right place 😆! 30mins later they were on their merry way with top tips & leaflets + they left a nice tip 🥰👍! 1/4 This is Niall Murphy, Director of Glasgow City Heritage Trust standing in front of the Glasgow City Heritage Trust shopfront. Niall is a middle aged white man wearing a pale brown Edwardian three piece suit, tartan bow tie, newspaper boy’s hat and round brown glasses with a neatly trimmed white beard. The shopfront has a grey stall riser, white painted frame, red door and is covered in illustrations of Glasgow buildings. The name ‘Glasgow City Heritage Trust’ is picked out in black on the fascia along side the Trust’s four colour logo. Serious points though as 1. With @VisitScotland closing all their tourist information centres I don’t think there’s anywhere else in the city centre you can get this kind of knowledgeable and friendly advice about #Glasgow, its history and useful tips on what to visit…🤔?! 2/4 This is the Visit Scotland Tourist Information Centre on Glasgow’s Buchanan Street. It has pale blue painted channeled walls, a double arched window, two deep pink signs with dotted I’s, and a purple fascia with ‘Visit Scotland / Alba’ and ‘I Centre’ picked out in white.

I’ve been involved in efforts to save the Sir John Maxwell School for a while so it was with a heavy heart I viewed this👇on site yesterday. Sadly, such an uncontrolled collapse, which happened at a known weak point in the building fabric, means the game is probably up…😔! 1/4 This is the east elevation ... What these images show is how: the roof is no longer supported; the wall directly below the collapse is bowing out due to the eccentric loading caused by the weight of masonry and roof timbers pressing down onto the top floor; and, exposed brick walls have lost their mortar 2/4 This photograph illustrates...This image is taken from th...Through the north elevation...
