Due to hostility, ethnic minority people were more likely to settle in close-knit communities around the Cardiff dock area. The docks were known as ‘lawless’ areas, where hostels for foreign sailors were tolerated alongside brothels and gambling holes.
Racial prejudice and hostility pushed ethnic minority communities into these spaces, with certain parts of Cardiff considered dangerous no-go zones by ethnic minority communities.
