crunch is just overtime. lots and LOTS of mandatory, unpaid overtime

because the game was too big imagine doing the same job you’re currently doing, but literally double the hours. also, you get paid in pizza for the last half of the day (max: 3 slices)

this is not a hypothetical— this was one of my first jobs in the industry

Being able to “squint” and see what a game in development will look/play like years down the road is a skill many MANY people lack (both in game dev but especially outside of it).

And they lack the skill to squint bc developing that skill requires an IN-DEPTH understanding of not just games, but game development itself.

Contrary to popular belief, most DLC isn’t content that was maliciously cut from the game to make an extra buck.

DLC has its own budget, timelines, greenlight, staff, etc. It’s a whoooole separate project. And nowadays it’s necessary for a AAA/AAAA game to ever break even.

Disappointing number of left-leaning folk who seem to think the proper way to fight oppression is to ignore it. It’s easy to ignore oppression when it doesn’t affect you. This is what concerns me so much about the Hashtag Resistance. It’s so rarely like a real resistance at all.
