Ion wanna hear yall saying “ASL should be taught in the K-12 + college classrooms” while in the same breath criticizing the grammatical, phonological, morphological, syntactic, & body-language structures of ASL every time yall see a Deaf interpreter on the screen ever again.
I know there are many researches & studies on ASL out there. ASL was recognized as an official language in 1965 (58 YEARS AGO) by William Stokoe. ASL has complex histories of audism, ableism, racism (ie BASL), xenophobia, & other ISMs.

The webinar hosted by @behearddc is mind-blowing. I cant unsee what I saw. I felt sick seeing & knowing the costs & phone companies’ profits while harming families & deaf/disabled inmates. This is what capitalism in mass incarceration looks. #DeafInPrison #DeafPrisonPhoneJustice
the current or former (?) inmate talking to @behearddc commented people who head to prison or jail should be protected. It falls on the overall system (educational to judicial) who created this. Deprivation in many deaf & disabled people’s lives should be discussed. #DeafinPrison

This is an interesting observation. I have different angles on elitism. I mentioned in my previous tweets I don’t believe the existence of “deaf elitism” but there is definitely a hierarchy. I would like to see an elaboration on this perspective.
going to a college, whether it’s a community college or university, is a privilege AND/OR a personal choice. the name of the university on a resume or by mouth can determine but not entirely how your life is navigated.
