Following the Prime Minister’s broadcast and guidance from the Department for Education on how it believes schools can begin to open safely for more pupils, it is important to confirm where responsibility lies. Here are some key points for governors and trustees. /1 The final decision on whether to invite pupils back rests with schools and academy trusts. Schools should only invite those pupils back when and if their assessment of the risk is that it is safe for both children and staff to do so. /2
