This is a good opinion piece on the Abe aftermath. But I keep seeing the assassin's MSDF time (3 years, so one enlistment period) brought up like this and I seriously question why. Literally nothing about the situation indicates his MSDF time had anything to do with either motive or how he accomplished the deed. He didn't learn to build makeshift firearms in the MSDF. If he was pro-SDF Abe's the last person he'd target.

In life, you learn more by opening your ears and listening than you do by opening your mouth and talking. Wish more people, particularly men, understood that. Or were interested in learning I don't think calling something a "subtweet" is right when you're not being negative towards the subject. I'd say it as a response, but it's not my place to jump in someone else's important point and "yes and" it, particularly when I'd be doing the very thing that is problematic.

🧵: There's a lot in the timeline these days about the entry band by the Japanese government and the costs, both human and to scholarship. Without taking away from those stories, I want to highlight additional costs that I see based on my own background in the military. (1/) First, let me say I feel heartbroken for the #MEXT scholars, the #JapanFoundation scholars, and anyone else whose research and, more importantly, LIFE have been turned upside down by this nonsensical and unscientific ban on foreign travel.
