How narcs behave on social media depends on what type of narc they are. The behaviours I mentioned in my previous tweet apply to grandiose narcissists, who are very full of themselves. Covert narcissists behave differently as they’re more under the radar.
🧵/1 Covert narcs lurk on social media but don’t post or comment much. If you block them, they create a rumpus - it turns out that they were looking at your posts after all!

For some years I’ve had social media focusing on issues around NPD. During this time I’ve come across some ‘difficult’ users. I’ve reached the conclusion that they’re likely narcs. They hang around social media. Here are some red flags 🚩 I’ve noticed:-
🧵/ 1 🔴 They may have a lot of selfies, carefully curated as to appearance etc.

🔴 They may talk about their achievements a lot. Updates focus on achievements, diet and exercise - preoccupations of somatic narcissists.

🔴 There are frequent status updates.

I think that if you have an ongoing problem with stiffness in your body then you should see your General Practitioner; they will explore medical causes with you and maybe do some tests.
🧵/1 If you know that you’ve suffered abuse then seek help from a therapist. Make sure that it’s one who understands narcissistic abuse and trauma and that you feel happy with them. Over time you may find that your stiffness lessens as your trauma recedes.

BIFF: I became aware of one technique for dealing with narcs when it was highlighted by the psychologist Christine Louis de Canonville @narcbehavior . This is a technique called BIFF, which stands for Brief, Informative, Friendly and Firm./1 This is how your communication with a narc, if you have to have any, should ideally be.The technique has been developed by the High Conflict Institute./2

Self Care can be hard!: if the concept of self care is new to you then you then you might have the impression that it’s about taking the easy path, relaxing and enjoying yourself. Some of it is, undoubtedly, but much of it isn’t.

Self care can be hard, challenging, difficult. It can be:-
✅Getting up to exercise on a cold morning.
✅Not having that next glass of wine.
✅Saying ‘no’ to someone because you’re too busy.
✅Doing house work when you’d rather be socialising.
And so on.

Exposure to a narcissist has, over time, a very limiting effect upon a victim. This is because the narcissist is always ready with the back handed compliment, the snide remark, the implication that you’re not good enough - or whatever./1 And, in the end, no matter how strong your self belief was before you became entangled in their web, you come to believe what the narc says. Or perhaps they put up physical barriers to your progress, like refusing to let you go out and take a college course./2

The chances are that, if you’ve broken up with a narc, they already have, or will acquire very quickly, new supply and have been grooming someone from their circle. The reason that they can move on so quickly is because they don’t care./1 You, on the other hand, will most likely take a long time to get over the ending of this relationship - because you did care./2

Treats: I think that everyone deserves treats from time to time. Treats that they give themselves, rather than treats given to them by other people./1 It could be that during the love bombing phase of a relationship with a narcissist you received many treats. These probably dried up once the devaluation phase commenced. Or maybe you were given things by the narc, but they weren’t very nice or what you liked, or wanted./2

Flying Monkeys: Flying monkeys 🐵 are the people that a narc uses to promote the narc’s version of events. This version of events will not be the truth, it will be what the narc wants everyone to think./1 The flying monkeys can be recruited from the abuser’s coterie, the victim’s friends (who have been manipulated to side with the abuser) and people in authority (who have also been manipulated to side with the abuser)./2
