So yesterday, our cat Inky had what must have been, for his little cat brain, a genuine horror experience.

(he is fine)

First of all, you need to understand that he hates the broom. There wasn't a reason for it, he just never trusted that thing. Whenever either of us swept he'd hop up on the couch and hunch suspiciously, watching the broom as it moved over the floor.

The mop was also sus. That's just a wet broom, as far as he was concerned.

In light of the absolutely ridiculous statements I keep seeing that Canada doesn't have deep, systemic problems with racism and police brutality (including those from Premier Doug Ford), here is a thread about the history of the Toronto Police Service and their utter monstrosity. The TPS is one of the oldest municipal police forces in the English-speaking world, formed in 1834. From the very beginning, they were hideously corrupt, suppressing opposition candidate meetings and taking sides in violence (ie. riots) between the Orange Order & Irish Catholics.

I was responsible for the exorcism of a tree while in elementary school. I wrote letters in the voice of a demon and hid them in the tree, and convinced classmates they were real. My catholic school, unfortunately, also thought they were real and the dioceses got involved. Since you all like this so much I’ll tell the story more completely: so, when I was in 6th grade, I started getting migraines. They were awful, blinding things that sent me to the emergency room a lot.

So, I want to talk about @hopeconf.

The conference was extraordinary: inspiring, incredibly technically rigorous and immensely joyful.

It was also flawed in its organization and execution, and those weaknesses were exploited by some utter shitheads. I'm going to try and pick it apart a little bit, at least from my immediate perspective and direct observations. I am not someone who is deeply embedded in this scene (though I've been peripheral since I was 13), and I am for sure willing to be wrong about most of it. #hopeconf
