🗣 Black/POC journalists/researchers/academics: have you been asked to come on a TV or radio show as an expert in your field, only to be used as a token minority voice, and quizzed on your experiences of racism, instead of being treated an expert in your own right? (Thread) This happened to me yesterday on @BBCWomansHour. I was asked to comment on Finland’s newly-elected female-led government. ”Great,” I thought, and spoke at length with the producer about the various points I would be bringing up during the 5-min live segment on the show.
