As an exercise in professional masochism, I spent today going through the comment sections of the UK's main media outlets. They're universally appalling hives of far right conspiracy theory disinformation. Surely proprietors and senior execs know this damages their brands? Nearly all the stuff in comment sections wouldn't get into any newspaper letters page or be aired by any broadcaster as they meet no standard of accuracy, and often foment outright hate. There should me much more robust monitoring across the entire media industry on comment posts

Hunger is not a royalist, so why are food banks closing for the funeral of the Queen?

It says something very dark about a nation that food banks are closing to mark the death of one of the world’s richest women, a royal who never went hungry in her life.

It was unrestrained pay in the city which led to the recklessness that caused the 2008 crash. As a result Tories introduced austerity - which led to food banks…
