Although internationally known as 'The Dutch', we just like to call ourselves Netherlanders. This week's Netherlander: /

To keep everybody busy this afternoon while I have a three hour meeting, here's a thread about my personal journey with ADHD.
I got diagnosed in August 2019, at age 33.
I was struggling with my job, I could meet deadlines, but the amount of stress that went into meeting it was rediculous.
I had trouble planning, I couldn't maintain any overview and constantly forgot things or at least didn't do ALL the steps.

So, today I want to tell you about ADHD. Because I didn't call myself the 'queen of chaos' in my pinned tweet just because it's a nice alliteration with cats and crochet. 1/
A lot of people still think about hyperactive boys when they think of ADHD. And they're WRONG!
Prepare yourself for a long thread!
Also, disclaimer. I am in no way suggesting that everything in this thread is the be-all end-all of ADHD. 2/

Question time!
Who here actually has a job that they studied for?
As in, went to college (for all the Dutchies, this includes mbo and hbo as well, as far as I'm concerned) and then ended up doing something completely different?
For instance, I have a BA in English, but don't actually do anything that would recuire a BA in English.
After I graduated I sort of stuck to and expanded my weekend job and became a store manager (bedrijfsleider) at Xenos, a well know Dutch retailstorechain.

What kind of stuff do governments buy via procurements you ask?
EVERYTHING.
The buildings they are situated in (both new (building projects) and existing (realtyservices), the maintenance of those buildings and any other buildings owned by a governmental institution. All roads.
Office chairs and desks, office supplies (including tp), coffee machines (incl. coffee, coffee cups, tea, sugar). Hardware, ALL software (seriously, anything IT-related you can think of is procured),

A thread about rescue dogs and the biases a lot of people seem to have.
1. 'They will never be mellow in a home, since they're not used to it'
~ yes, some dogs need some time to adjust. But that's what fosters are for.
I've never had a foster that wasn't mellow after a day or 3.
2. 'They carry diseases'
~No. Rescues from other countries need a declaration of health and are tested for all most common doggy-diseases.
Also, did you know mixed breeds are often stronger (health wise) than pure bred dogs?
Simply because they weren't bred for their looks. 3

I have mentioned before that I’m of Moluccan descent, I’m proud to carry the surname “Kaihatu”. Actually, there’s a big Moluccan community in the Netherlands and I feel that little is known about the history of the community in the Netherlands.
Unfortunately, the colonial history is only a small part in Dutch history lessons, and tends to emphasize mostly on the victories of the Dutch rather than the consequences that followed. So, please allow me to elaborate on this subject to share some of my heritage.

If you have a Twents accent in Dutch, you're in bad luck. You'll be subtitled on national television. Even when you speak perfect Dutch. You get imitated or laughed at for it on a weekly basis (happened to me on NYE), or even denied jobs.
Two years ago, Dutch TV aired a game show on dialects. After the Twents representative said a sentence, the show host asked Patricia Paay (of all people) what she though of it. "Dumb", she said. Our representative was never asked what he thought of her accent.
