The attention of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has been drawn to certain information making the rounds that the ECNBA or the NBA commissioned a survey of members as to who their choice of the President of the Association is or should be.

This understandably, has caused some anxiety for some of our members. Nothing can be farther from the truth. The ECNBA states categorically that it did not commission any person or body of persons to conduct any such inquiry or survey.
The choice of who to vote for at the forthcoming election is the absolute prerogative of our highly esteemed and respected members who can make their rational choices. Members are urged to disregard any such unscrupulous inquiry or survey as it has nothing to do with the ECNBA.

DESECRATION AND ASSAULT ON THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT BY DSS: NBA URGES ALL NIGERIANS TO DEFEND THE RULE OF LAW.

The Nigerian Bar Association is greatly dismayed at the exhibition of primitivity, thuggery, insane passion for lawlessness, contempt and disrespect for the rule of law
by the agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) within the precincts of the Federal High Court, Abuja while attempting to re-arrest Citizens Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare earlier today.
Eventually, Sowore and Bakare were re-arrested by the DSS inspite of being on bail granted by the Federal High Court.

The NBA has been properly briefed - beyond the shameful videos of the incident in public domain- by our members who witnessed the disgraceful and crass violation

SOCIAL MEDIA REPORTS OF NBA’SQUERY TO ALIYU UMAR, SAN

1. My attention has just been drawn to social media reports of this morning on the purported query issued by the NBA to Aliyu Umar, SAN over his prosecution of the Charge against Honorable Mr. Justice Walter S N Onnoghen
the Chief Justice of Nigeria before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. I know nothing of that query, and I did not authorize it. I learnt of it for the first time from the social media reports this morning and promptly called Jonathan Taidi, the NBA General Secretary for
confirmation. Jonathan, I must mention, lost his mother only yesterday and is currently in bereavement. I had passed on to him yesterday my personal condolences and the sympathies and regrets of the Bar. Our prayers are with Jonathan and his extended family and for Mama’s

2. The Nigerian Bar Association unequivocally rejects and condemns this attempted coup against the Nigerian Judiciary and evident suspension of the Nigerian Constitution by the Executive arm of the Federal Government. The action of the Executive portends a slide into anarchy and

Assault, Intimidation and Desecration of the Judiciary Must Stop

1. Nigerians have witnessed again the targeted assault of the judiciary by agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria (“FGN”) epitomized by today’s media trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honorable Mr...
Justice Walter S N Onnoghen, GCON (“CJN”). According to media reports which have now been validated by the Statement of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (“CCT”) that was released today an application was “filed by the Code of Conduct Bureau to the CCT Chairman yesterday for the
trial to commence against the Chief Justice of Nigeria on six count charges” and that the CCT “will commence the trial on Monday, 14th January 2019”. The Nigerian Bar Association unequivocally condemns this assault, intimidation and desecration of the Judiciary by FGN agencies
