Update on the "view from Finland".
(previous thread here : )

Today's topics: the media in Russia, what Finland is trying to anticipate, and FSB leak.

Again, a "this is Patrick's outlet bc he has to talk about this so his head doesn't explode" rambly 🧵
⬇️ First, a lot of people might be wondering how the population is reacting in Russia, as we hear reports that "we found labs where the US and Ukraine were weaponizing the plague" and such.
Surely it's big enough that people don't believe this shit, right?

Ten days into the Ukraine war, here is how we see things in Finland.
The situation in Ukraine itself is well documented, so I'll tell you about two other elements: how we think things are going in Russia, and what we're doing in Finland.
Long somewhat rambly 🧵.
⬇️ What we're hearing from Russia isn't great.
It's impossible to say how things will go and all of it might be temporary of course, but many seem to think that things are not super stable overall.

Finished #Arcane. I cannot find a *single* bad thing to say about it. I kid you not, it is possibly the best animation series ever created. Ever. It is incredible.
(Here's a spoiler free 🧵, but tldr is watch it. Now.)
PS: I couldn't care less about LoL. I do now though I guess! The animation has been getting mountains of praise, and deservedly so. The graphic design and animation are unbelievable. It looks so good, and impressively, consistently so.
You are never not in awe watching it.
I'm guessing Fortiche Prod will be getting a lot of phone calls.

Free shirts! Welcome to BlizzCon! Well since I'm awake, I'll take a few minutes to talk about this tweet, which has kind of gotten away from me in the past 24 hours and has apparently become somewhat popular on pro Hong Kong twitter (nothing dramatic, but a few hundred RTs and favs at this stage). Thread. ⬇️

Ok, so I played Anthem for a few more hours, and my feelings are... mixed.

Parts of the game are fun: flying is really satisfying and shooting+abilities core gameplay is reasonably fun, but I do worry about the staying power long term; mainly about variety in activities. 🔽 In looter games (Diablo/Destiny/etc) it is *very* important that the game tricks you into feeling like you're not doing the same thing over and over again.
Your core gameplay loop is always the same 30 sec ~2 min repeated, but the context / activities have to be varied. 🔽

So I'm seeing a lot of angry comments and videos about how the evil Activision is ruining Blizzard. I'd like to take a look at the whole thing a bit dispassionately... Fun analysis ahead!
(long thread) First, what is the actual situation Blizzard is in?
- No releases in the foreseeable future (say 12/18 months).
- Many "classic" game teams.
- Many new game teams (probably mobile).
- Most GaaS games not in their prime (OW, HS, etc).
So in short, LOTS of spend, decreasing income.
