Dear fellow very online Democrats, the election is five months away and the world isn’t the same as it used to be.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to try and stay sane and have an accurate view of the race:

🧵 1: - We are the party that benefits from low voter turnout now. Among people who’ve never voted, Trump is up >10%. Among people vote every election, Biden is winning by ~6%.

I was going to QT the gaslighting nonsense from Michael Hobbes about how organized shoplifting is a myth, but found out he blocked me sometime today. Image I guess I said shoplifting is bad.

It’s kind of wild that we’ve put deodorant and shampoo behind lock and key and exposed retail employees to harassment and stress instead of just locking up the 300 people doing all the theft. Both EV enthusiasts and haters dramatically overestimate how much charging and public charging infrastructure matters for daily use.

Before buying an EV, I made this mistake too. But the thing about an EV is you always leave home with a full tank so *very rarely* charge. I have 40k miles on my 2020 Tesla. I haven’t been to a super charger yet this year.

My question is how do you solve the crime / open air drug markets / social collapse problem in SF?

You have absolutely horrific conditions across large swaths of downtown and the mission and I’m really at a loss for how to address it. You’ve got open air drug markets and fences for looted goods.

You have beatings and stabbings on the streets. news.yahoo.com/amphtml/beatin…

Most of this is just perennial "is some huge amount of cash really poor" debate, but the thing that jumped out to me is the assertion that "regular overseas holidays" were part of the middle class experience in the 90s.
Passport data from the census doesn't support this. And sorry to the surprising number of Canadian tourism officials replying to this, but when someone says “overseas trips” they aren’t talking about Canada.
