OCPS families, this is an update regarding parents keeping students home during the increased COVID-19 cases. Beginning January 31, we will no longer be able to provide excused absences in such cases.

The number of cases has continued to decline, and we continue to require face masks for adults and strongly encourage them for students. It is also an additional strain on our teachers as they continue to manage assignments for large numbers of absent students.

OCPS families, thank you for your patience today. As stated repeatedly over the weekend, OCPS and AT&T prepared for the increased traffic, but there are always adjustments that need to be made when the volume of participants increases on the first day.

Schools provide a sense of normalcy that many families in our community - incl. hospital workers & law enforcement – rely on. Also, there is a need for continuity for the 61,000+ students who receive free or reduced meals at school that are their main source of nutrition.
Based on current state & local guidance, schools will reopen after Spring Break on March 23. Both @OrangeCoFL & @citybeautiful stated spring break camps & youth activities are also continuing as planned. During the break, custodial crews will clean schools/offices.
