🧵As we head into the APEC summit and the Biden-Xi meeting this week, I thought it would be a good time to talk about ADIZ activity in 2023 so far.

BLUF: The PLA has increased the quantity and quality of its activities around Taiwan in 2023.

Map by @ThrustWR and @LouisMVezian Image I will not be counting aircraft that did not enter the de-facto ADIZ or naval craft. The MND only began sharing those figures in August of 2022, and without additional information on locations we can't determine how close these assets were to Taiwan.

JAN 2023 ADIZ REPORT

Hi everyone! It’s the last day of January, which means it’s time for the monthly report on ADIZ violations.

This month saw a smaller number of aircraft, with most violations taking place before the Lunar New Year and a larger violation today! There were 9 pieces of notable Taiwan/China/U.S. related news this month

The biggest story this month was probably the Biden-Kishida summit, which comes on the heels of the announcement of a major defense spending increase by Japan.

SEPT 2022 ADIZ REPORT

It’s the last day of September, which means it’s time for the monthly report on Taiwan ADIZ violations.

The biggest development this month was the public tracking of PLA UAVs by the @MoNDefense starting on 9/5/2022. This month was not the first time UAV’s have entered the ADIZ, but it is notable that the MND decided to share this information.

It's the last day of the month, which means it's time for my first monthly report on Taiwan ADIZ violations.

The big story of the month was @SpeakerPelosi's trip to Taiwan, which was met with large-scale military exercises by the PLA ETC that surrounded the island. Two additional Congressional delegations, the Governor of Indiana, and the Governor of Arizona also traveled to Taiwan this month.

These visits demonstrate increased public support for Taiwan by U.S. officials, driven by a general increase in support for Taiwan in the USA.

An additional 13 aircraft were tracked in the area but did not cross the Median Line or enter the SW ADIZ.
