playing SMTV (a game that kinda rings as a disappointment in retrospect), I was hoping that the lesson would be that you can do dense, bespoke content in lieu of a vast, detail-rich, world (think the horse's balls in RDR2 as the undesirable alternative in terms of dev scope) and Elden Ring is proving that that is indeed the lesson! BOTW feels vast but empty because there are only ~5 things that the would could possibly contain at any point, and those things are neat but their familiarity saps the feeling of surprise... also the loot economy is busted
