BREAKING: Canada's Immigration Minister has announced new measures to limit and curb the abuse of Canada's international student program.
➡️ From Sep 1, 2024 there are no more spousal open work permits for spouses of international students who are not studying in graduate schools or in a professional program such as medicine or law
➡️Canada will implement a two-year cap on international study permits, it will reduce the number of study permits by 35% from 2023's level to 364,000.
➡️Each province will be assigned a fixed number of study permits that's proportional to its population, and have to decide how it divvies them up among the schools authorized to take in international students.
➡️There are no more postgraduate work permits for students who graduate from Private Career Colleges operating under Public College-Private Partnerships
More info coming later today.....

Studying in Canada gives you additional permanent residence options. But you still have to be strategic about it
That’s what I always say that permanent residency is not automatic. So, you have to play your cards right by knowing your options early enough & positioning yourself.

How to change from a Visitor Visa to a Work Permit or Study Permit in Canada
The first thing to note is that a visitor visa ALONE is not a permanent relocation visa
So, it's important to know what it takes to change your status before proceeding
Thread olufemiloye.ca/how-to-change-…
I am increasingly getting questions from those who have a Canada Visitor Visa & looking for options to change that to another status while visiting
Note that while Canada allows you to apply for another status while visiting, there are requirements to meet

If you are new to the application and study abroad process and don't even know how to start, this is a step-by-step process (you can use this for any country too).
Some of your accommodation options in Canada as a new student:
- Stay in school residence (it may be more expensive than renting off campus, but it saves you the stress of looking for houses as a new student)
- Rent Airbnb (to stay temporarily upon arrival & search for houses)
- Look for someone in the city that could house you temporarily or help you look for accommodation (last part may not be easy because people may not really have time to help you with that).
- Look for or connect with other new/old students to do your house search & rent together

Being an immigration expert seems to be the in-thing these days
My one advice for you, if you’re not an authorized/licensed representative, avoid charging fees from people for Canada Visa
If you live in Canada, avoid it completely unless you’re licensed

Admission into Graduate programs (Masters/PhDs) in Canada is very very competitive
A 70-75% CGPA is the common minimum CGPA required. This is about 3.5/5.0 CGPA scale
Also, successful applicants and those offered entrance funding are mostly those with grades higher than this.
