On Wednesday MPs will choose whether to vote for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Keir Starmer has recently called for a ‘sustainable ceasefire’ and ‘humanitarian pause’ to distract from the fact he and @UKLabour could refuse to vote for an immediate ceasefire on 21 Feb (thread)
Only 56 Labour MPs voted for a ceasefire in November. The rest are hoping they can get away with refusing to vote for an immediate ceasefire again, by trying to confuse the public with ambiguous language. theguardian.com/politics/2023/…

🚨Boycott Israeli dates - a 5 step guide
Palestinians call on us to boycott Israeli products to pressure Israel to end its apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.
As Ramadan approaches, make sure you stand with Palestinians by boycotting dates from Israel (thread)
Step 1: When you’re buying dates, always check the label. Don't buy dates that are produced or packaged in Israel or its illegal settlements.

Israel is now carpet bombing 1.4million Palestinians crammed into Rafah. Dozens have been killed overnight. This is genocide. (1/6)
Israel’s assault has pushed 1.4million Palestinians into Rafah. Many have been displaced multiple times, pushed further and further south. Conditions are already dire, with severe shortages of essential supplies including water and food, and diseases spreading. (2/6)

South Africa has filed an application with the International Court of Justice to take Israel to court over its genocidal violence against Palestinians in Gaza. It is a significant case, with scope to halt the #GazaGenocide.
🧵Here are some key points about #IsraelOnTrial:
South Africa argues that "Israel has engaged in, is engaging in and risks further engaging in genocidal acts against the Palestinian people in Gaza" by killing, causing mental + bodily harm & deliberately inflicting conditions to bring about their physical destruction as a group.

🚨Israel is continuing its catastrophic onslaught on the Palestinian people. Here’s some updates from over the weekend 🧵(1/10)
On Sunday, Israel’s bombing killed over 100 Palestinians in Jabalia refugee camp, which has been repeatedly attacked during Israel’s current assault. (2/10)
Today marks the 75th anniversary of UN General Assembly Resolution 194, which outlines the inalienable right of Palestinian refugees, dispossessed by Israeli forces, to return to their homes and land
The right of return is a pillar of the Palestinian liberation struggle 🧵 (1/7)
In 1948, during the Nakba (catastrophe in Arabic) over 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes and land by Zionist forces. The newly founded state of Israel quickly put in place laws to bar them from returning. (2/7)

TODAY – 29 November – is the United Nations’ International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. It has seldom been more urgent to make a commitment to fight for the rights of Palestinians to live in freedom and equality.
This year, Palestinians are living through one of the darkest moments in their history. Palestinians in the Gaza Strip face a struggle to survive while Israeli violence and apartheid continues to blight the lives of all Palestinian people.
🚨In the next few hours, the British parliament will vote on whether to join the growing calls around the world for #CeasefireNow. Those still refusing to call for the killing to stop are increasingly isolated on the global stage (Thread)
From London to Cape Town to Cairo, in Mexico City, Jakarta and Istanbul, and in New York, Washington, Paris and Berlin, millions have taken part in massive demonstrations to demand that Israel’s assault on Palestinian civilians must stop now.
The British government licenses the export of millions worth of weaponry produced in Britain to Israel.
From 2018-2022, the UK exported at least £146m in arms sales to Israel, although the true value is likely to be substantially higher. (2/9)

Recent weeks have seen huge and diverse marches in solidarity with Palestinians, but disgracefully, Home Secretary Suella Braverman has falsely labelled our family-friendly protests as 'hate marches', even suggesting our demonstration this Saturday should be banned (Thread) 🇵🇸
Many attended their first protest these past weeks. People from all walks of life feel compelled to demand an end to violence. Yet Braverman, who once said it was her ‘dream’ to deport refugees to Rwanda, wants to smear our growing movement for #CeasefireNOW

106 years ago today, Britain’s Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour sent a letter, on behalf of the British Gov, for transmission to the Zionist Federation declaring British support for the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine. (1/6)
The letter didn’t even name the indigenous Palestinian population, describing them only as “non-Jewish communities”, disregarding their national and political rights. (2/6)

🚨 Israel is engaged in an all-out assault on Palestinians living under its apartheid regime, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.
The British gov directly supports Israel’s attacks, including by approving the export of millions worth of weapons to Israel 🧵(1/10)
Israel’s relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip continues, with over 8,500 Palestinians killed. A ground invasion has now begun with tanks and bulldozers attacking Palestinians and further destroying homes and infrastructure. (2/10)

🇵🇸 Ahead of our march in London this coming Saturday, some politicians – who seem to thrive on stoking fear and division – have peddled false statements about our peaceful movement for Palestinian rights. Don’t be misled (thread)
Last week, 150,000 of us marched in London to call for an end to violence, and justice for Palestine. We were young and old, from a wide array of racial, and religious backgrounds, LGBTQ+ and not. This week we will be back in even greater numbers
Keir Starmer today declared his support for the commitment of war crimes by Israel on @LBC.
He suggested that Israel has the right to cut off electricity and food supplies to Gaza. This is a war crime under international law.
Starmer is clearly either ignorant of International law or indifferent to its application. Given his background as a lawyer, it is unlikely that the former is the case.

The offensive launched from Gaza today can only be understood in the context of Israel's ongoing, decades long, military occupation and colonisation of Palestinian land and imposition of a system of oppression that meets the legal definition of apartheid. (thread)
These attacks are a response to recent and historic violence against Palestinians by Israel. Just yesterday, Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian town of Huwara, destroying homes and businesses and firing live ammunition, killing one Palestinian.
🚨The Labour Party has removed references to Israeli ‘apartheid’ from the titles of PSC events and stalls at Labour conference. We won't be silenced. We will bring the Palestinian struggle against apartheid to the heart of conference. (thread) 🇵🇸
When we asked the Labour leadership why they removed the word "apartheid" from PSC’s listing of its stall and fringe meeting in the conference printed and online brochures they said, “the Labour party will not publish a description of Israel as an apartheid state”.

🚨LAUNCHED TODAY: a new report by @OfficialBrismes and @elsclegal highlights the dangerous impact of the IHRA working definition of antisemitism on British universities.
Read the full report here➡️ bit.ly/UKIHRA
The report details 40 cases - in none were the accusations of antisemitism made with reference to the IHRA definition substantiated. But lengthy investigations and disciplinary processes create a chilling effect, leading staff and students to self-censor: theguardian.com/education/2023…

Yesterday MPs debated and voted on the government's anti-boycott bill at 2nd reading in Parliament. Whilst the government won the vote, its clear they are losing the argument. The bill is toxic and opposed by a growing group of MPs including many in the gov's own party. (thread)
@KimJohnsonMP (Lab) highlighted the threat the bill poses to democracy and free speech and the importance of boycott as a tactic to protect human rights.
🚨The government has now tabled its anti-boycott bill, an attack on local democracy, freedom of expression and campaigns for human rights and climate justice.
Read this thread and sign our petition to join 68 civil society groups in opposing this bill ➡️palestinecampaign.eaction.online/noantiBDS
The anti-boycott bill will impact on the ability of public bodies to make decisions in line with ethical investment principles, and to divest from companies involved in violations of international law or human rights.
Earlier this week, the European Legal Support Center (ELSC) published a ground-breaking report documenting the alarming extent of ‘human rights violations’ resulting from the controversial IHRA working definition of antisemitism (IHRA WDA). (1/14)
This thread highlights some of the report’s key findings and the wider climate of repression directed against Palestinian voices and supporters of their rights.

Today the Labour leadership pressured Kim Johnson MP to withdraw remarks she made suggesting the Israeli Government contains fascists and that Israel practises apartheid. This was predictable but nonetheless shameful. Here’s why: (1/6) #IsraeliApartheid
Predictable because it matches with Keir Starmer's refusal to accept the overwhelming evidence of Israel’s practice of apartheid, as presented by Palestinian civil society, legal experts and human rights organisations including @amnesty. (2/6) bit.ly/3JvBhB2
