Palestinians have called for a boycott of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, following the refusal of its organisers, the European Broadcasting Union, to expel genocidal and apartheid Israel from the competition🧵

#BoycottEurovision2024 Black text 'Boycott Eurovision 2024' on a pink and yellow background. Israel’s inclusion in Eurovision gives it a stage to present itself to the world as light and fun, covering up its
war crimes against Palestinians.

It allows Israel to art-wash its ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

On #IWD24, we stand with Palestinian women continuing to lead the resistance to Israel’s colonisation, apartheid and genocide.

The fight for freedom from gendered oppression is incomplete without the liberation of all women and oppressed people across the world. (1/12) Image Palestinian women have faced down gendered violence from Israel’s colonial regime since its beginning.

Today, Palestinian women in Gaza are facing Israel's genocidal attacks. 70% of the those killed have been women and children. (2/12)

On Wednesday MPs will choose whether to vote for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Keir Starmer has recently called for a ‘sustainable ceasefire’ and ‘humanitarian pause’ to distract from the fact he and @UKLabour could refuse to vote for an immediate ceasefire on 21 Feb (thread) Only 56 Labour MPs voted for a ceasefire in November. The rest are hoping they can get away with refusing to vote for an immediate ceasefire again, by trying to confuse the public with ambiguous language.

🚨Boycott Israeli dates - a 5 step guide

Palestinians call on us to boycott Israeli products to pressure Israel to end its apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.

As Ramadan approaches, make sure you stand with Palestinians by boycotting dates from Israel (thread) Step 1: When you’re buying dates, always check the label. Don't buy dates that are produced or packaged in Israel or its illegal settlements.

Israel is now carpet bombing 1.4million Palestinians crammed into Rafah. Dozens have been killed overnight. This is genocide. (1/6) Israel’s assault has pushed 1.4million Palestinians into Rafah. Many have been displaced multiple times, pushed further and further south. Conditions are already dire, with severe shortages of essential supplies including water and food, and diseases spreading. South Africa has filed an application with the International Court of Justice to take Israel to court over its genocidal violence against Palestinians in Gaza. It is a significant case, with scope to halt the #GazaGenocide.

🧵Here are some key points about #IsraelOnTrial: South Africa argues that "Israel has engaged in, is engaging in and risks further engaging in genocidal acts against the Palestinian people in Gaza" by killing, causing mental + bodily harm & deliberately inflicting conditions to bring about their physical destruction as a group.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of UN General Assembly Resolution 194, which outlines the inalienable right of Palestinian refugees, dispossessed by Israeli forces, to return to their homes and land

The right of return is a pillar of the Palestinian liberation struggle 🧵 (1/7) Image In 1948, during the Nakba (catastrophe in Arabic) over 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes and land by Zionist forces. The newly founded state of Israel quickly put in place laws to bar them from returning. (2/7) Image

TODAY – 29 November – is the United Nations’ International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. It has seldom been more urgent to make a commitment to fight for the rights of Palestinians to live in freedom and equality.

un.org/en/observances… This year, Palestinians are living through one of the darkest moments in their history. Palestinians in the Gaza Strip face a struggle to survive while Israeli violence and apartheid continues to blight the lives of all Palestinian people.

Palestinian trade unions have called for people around the world to take action to end the supply of weapons to Israel, used to carry out its horrific attacks.

Here’s what you need to know about the UK-Israel arms trade #StopArmingIsrael🧵(1/9)

The British government licenses the export of millions worth of weaponry produced in Britain to Israel.

From 2018-2022, the UK exported at least £146m in arms sales to Israel, although the true value is likely to be substantially higher. (2/9)

Recent weeks have seen huge and diverse marches in solidarity with Palestinians, but disgracefully, Home Secretary Suella Braverman has falsely labelled our family-friendly protests as 'hate marches', even suggesting our demonstration this Saturday should be banned (Thread) 🇵🇸 Image Many attended their first protest these past weeks. People from all walks of life feel compelled to demand an end to violence. Yet Braverman, who once said it was her ‘dream’ to deport refugees to Rwanda, wants to smear our growing movement for #CeasefireNOW

106 years ago today, Britain’s Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour sent a letter, on behalf of the British Gov, for transmission to the Zionist Federation declaring British support for the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine. 🇵🇸 Ahead of our march in London this coming Saturday, some politicians – who seem to thrive on stoking fear and division – have peddled false statements about our peaceful movement for Palestinian rights. Don’t be misled (thread) Image Last week, 150,000 of us marched in London to call for an end to violence, and justice for Palestine. We were young and old, from a wide array of racial, and religious backgrounds, LGBTQ+ and not. This week we will be back in even greater numbers

Keir Starmer today declared his support for the commitment of war crimes by Israel on @LBC.

He suggested that Israel has the right to cut off electricity and food supplies to Gaza. This is a war crime under international law.

#FreePalestine #GazaUnderAttack Starmer is clearly either ignorant of International law or indifferent to its application. Given his background as a lawyer, it is unlikely that the former is the case.

The offensive launched from Gaza today can only be understood in the context of Israel's ongoing, decades long, military occupation and colonisation of Palestinian land and imposition of a system of oppression that meets the legal definition of apartheid. (thread) These attacks are a response to recent and historic violence against Palestinians by Israel. Just yesterday, Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian town of Huwara, destroying homes and businesses and firing live ammunition, killing one Palestinian.

labourlist.org/2023/10/labour… When we asked the Labour leadership why they removed the word "apartheid" from PSC’s listing of its stall and fringe meeting in the conference printed and online brochures they said, “the Labour party will not publish a description of Israel as an apartheid state”.

Yesterday MPs debated and voted on the government's anti-boycott bill at 2nd reading in Parliament. Whilst the government won the vote, its clear they are losing the argument. The bill is toxic and opposed by a growing group of MPs including many in the gov's own party. (thread) @KimJohnsonMP (Lab) highlighted the threat the bill poses to democracy and free speech and the importance of boycott as a tactic to protect human rights.
