Today is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

As Palestinians continue to face down and resist Israel’s genocide, occupation and apartheid, we will act in solidarity until they achieve freedom, justice and return🧵(1/6) Image The international day of solidarity comes as Palestinians continue to face the darkest hour in their struggle for liberation.

Israel continues to inflict almost unimaginable horrors on Palestinians in its live-streamed genocide – armed and backed by Britain. (2/6)

TODAY we have delivered our complaint to @Ofcom signed by nearly 35,000 people - over 700 pages of names - demanding they investigate @SkyNews misleading coverage of Maccabi fans’ racist violence in Amsterdam. (1/4) @SkyNews coverage is indicative of, and contributes to, a prevalent anti-Palestinian bias in the British media that dehumanises Palestinians and obscures the truth of Israel’s genocidal violence, crucial to enabling it. Earlier this month, it was reported that Barclays had sold its shares in Elbit Systems.

We warned that @Barclays had given no assurance that it wouldn’t re-invest, and today, Barclays latest quarterly filing shows that the bank once again holds shares in Elbit Systems 🧵1/5 While this investment is substantially smaller than its previous level of investment in Elbit Systems, it indicates the bank has made no decision to divest.  2/5

You may have seen reports that @Barclays latest US SEC filing shows that it currently holds no shares in Elbit Systems.

This could indicate the start of a permanent divestment and that shows the power of our movement, but we can’t let Barclays off the hook. We must keep up the pressure and not allow our campaign to be derailed. Here’s why 🧵Image PSC regularly monitor all Barclays filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, and we saw in August that Barclays latest quarterly filing shows that the bank divested from Elbit Systems sometime between the end of March and the end of June 2024.

After passionate speeches in support of Palestinian rights, @The_TUC representing 5.5 million workers & 48 unions unanimously passed a hugely significant motion at its annual congress yesterday. It re-committed unions to ending Israel’s decades of illegal military occupation, ethnic cleansing & imposition of a system of apartheid 🧵1/6 The motion passed @The_TUC also called for a halt to ALL arms trading with Israel, heaping pressure on the Labour government which has only suspended some export licenses. It called on the government to uphold international law & recognise its obligations to prevent genocide and punish those responsible. 🧵2/6

Reports have emerged that, under pressure from civil servants and campaigners, the gov has frozen the processing of new arms export licenses to Israel.

If true, it shows the significant pressure the government is under to act on arms sales to Israel. However, talk of a “secret arms embargo” is premature 🧵(1/6)

middleeasteye.net/news/uk-govern… Freezing new licenses, while leaving extant licenses untouched would mean the majority of arms exports to Israel can continue.

For example, it wouldn’t affect Britain’s contribution to the F-16 and F-35 fighter jets – exported under an Open General Export License allowing for the export of an unlimited quantity of equipment. (2/6)

Today, Palestinian women in Gaza are facing Israel's genocidal attacks. 70% of the those killed have been women and children. (2/12)

On Wednesday MPs will choose whether to vote for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Keir Starmer has recently called for a ‘sustainable ceasefire’ and ‘humanitarian pause’ to distract from the fact he and @UKLabour could refuse to vote for an immediate ceasefire on 21 Feb (thread) Only 56 Labour MPs voted for a ceasefire in November. The rest are hoping they can get away with refusing to vote for an immediate ceasefire again, by trying to confuse the public with ambiguous language.

South Africa has filed an application with the International Court of Justice to take Israel to court over its genocidal violence against Palestinians in Gaza. It is a significant case, with scope to halt the #GazaGenocide.

🧵Here are some key points about #IsraelOnTrial: South Africa argues that "Israel has engaged in, is engaging in and risks further engaging in genocidal acts against the Palestinian people in Gaza" by killing, causing mental + bodily harm & deliberately inflicting conditions to bring about their physical destruction as a group.
