In 2025 lets normalize shaping nose wires well before donning a mask, I’m positive this will improve protection, getting the best performance out of your PPE is important because we know prevention is key
Do the final adjustments after putting it on, but this is important first
Here’s my results for the Kid95, bifold headstrap mask with a chin staple, 9.2 N99 mode Fit Factor with a pointy nose wire and 122 N99 mode Fit Factor with a properly shaped nose wire

DIY pandemic, surgery in the lowest COVID risk possible way, with a $100 PAPR
The OR was mostly surgical masks, not N95s, but my PAPR never came off which’s only an option if it’s a surgery that can be performed without intubation, I had to fight for that ebay.com/itm/2045750617…
The Honeywell PAPR shown in the previous tweet is now discontinued, but the AirBoss PAPR new in box is still available at the link for $100, just don’t buy it if you live above 4,000ft and you definitely can’t use it on a plane

Ok, help me out here, what are the ways to describe a person who says they will do something, but then doesn’t and upon follow up now refuses to do what that said? Multiple people have tried to intervene with no success so all that’s left is twitter public opinion court
Al all volunteer community project requires trust and communication to function, notwithstanding the muddled privacy policy with @FitTestMyPlanet ‘s project, he said he would delete my data almost 4 weeks ago, as he has done for others who left his project, but now he will not

Here’s my thread of top tips to get the best protection from your mask
First, if you have facial hair, shave every day, the part of your face where the mask seal sits needs to be clean shaven
If you aren’t willing or able to do that see the end of this thread for otherideas
For masks with nose wires, form the wire to the shape of your nose bridge, no sharp creases

Building a DIY dental PAPR for the @covidsafeco loaner library
I’m attempting this build with a cheaper air blower, if it passes on the PortaCount I’ll share the model, making this affordable to more people, if not I’ll return it and buy the one I know works and rebuild

Updated DIY Dental PAPR parts list and prices as of today
Update to my Dental PAPR build, I’ve tried every brand of filter on here and Moldex P100 filters with a Zimi 95S as a prefilter is giving the best fit factors
Also the Moldex filters are pleated and don’t collapse under the airflow so the spiral thing isn’t needed

Parents and adults with small faces, this is a draft chart comparing the sizes of small masks, feedback on the relative sizes of these masks or others similar in size would be appreciated
The smallest disposable masks ordered from extra small to small by vertical height, but because fit is a 3D problem some of these masks will fit a range of face sizes and others only a very narrow size range, all the ear loops will seal better with the Bone Lanyard, see Alt text
This bone lanyard stays put at the crown of your head and allows the tension to be adjusted for the top of the ear loop attachment vs the bottom by adjusting where on the ear loop the lanyard is attached, my favorite ear saver amzn.to/4drfmaU

People with narrow faces and a hard time fitting masks, try bringing the chin together at an angle for stapling and then if that causes the nose portion to pull away from your face try attaching the top strap closer to the nose wire, I like to use staples reinforced with hot glue
Now that I know the two modifications I need to make it’s easy to apply this to multiple models, I still fail some of them but the fit factor always improves when I do this

$110 for a dental PAPR, inspired by @edsuom
Blower with internal battery
P100 filter
Nose snorkel
Assembled with items I already had-tape, hot glue, exhale valve, and a metal spiral to keep the P100 open amzn.to/3oloaK8 amzn.to/3mVGhpB amzn.to/3mVGF7x
Unfortunately the internal battery only lasts 55 minutes on Low, which is plenty powerful enough, and it will not run while plugged in, so not helpful for a longer appointment

Small face elastomeric respirators.
I have a full face respirator that fits great. I’ve been using an MCU-2/P for 15+ yrs. Since COVID started I’ve been trying to find a half face option. ACI Duckbill N95s are the only disposable N95 I’ve tried that fits.
Now respirators 🧵
3M 6100 was the first one I tried. I could not pass a user seal check for negative or positive pressure despite many attempts. Very painful due to narrow nose bridge at the top.
