One of the most painful pastoral moments is sitting in a room of very loving and committed senior saints who firmly believed "Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it" was a literal promise whose kids no longer speak w them.
Because the pain was and is always that the Proverbs are not promises as such that can be treated as "if this then that" and these people were lied to by a publishing industry that viewed them as targets for profit.

City Church and country Church are worlds apart
