Continuing with my intention of writing down calculus thoughts as twitter burns.. The concept of integration stumped me. I couldn't fathom why it was so important to find the area under a curve.
2/n My rock-solid of understanding of area was length x width, with units agreeing with each other. The only use I could think of for integration was how to figure out how much paint would be needed to a paint an unusually shaped wall. Thinking of area, literally, as square +

My math understanding is like a block of swiss cheese: full of holes. I see something like this & can't even imagine how it's done. Sometimes what I do is pick out something to poke at until I understand it, which is what I plan on doing this graph by @giohio . +
