All manner of awful economic disasters would befall us if we took any responsibility at all for running our own country. Early in the campaign it looked too close to call. Even on polling day I still had a nagging doubt about the result.

Within twenty minutes of the first ballot box being opened we knew we were winning by a landslide.

Scotland vote YES by a 3 to 1 majority.
