Some quick thoughts on the @churchofengland Living in Love and Faith Book
i) It's clearly a discussion document so it's not going to satisfy everybody and it's not going to come down on one side or the other. Rather, it feels like an update of "Some Issues in Human Sexuality" 1/n ii) The most useful bits are the conversations at the end. They demonstrate that it is possible to have discussions across the theological divides without the use of language like:
bigot
homophobe
self-repressed
sodomite
heretic
pervert
fundamentalist

@GnasherJew @AuschwitzMuseum @1vitaceae Here's the problem - Poland (and other inheritors of the territory of the Pale of Settlement) have never had to own their antisemitism. After WW2, Germany and Germans had to face their culpability. It is a cleansing, refining, brutally honest process but necessary. 1/n @GnasherJew @AuschwitzMuseum @1vitaceae In Austria (where my family comes from) we told the half lie that we were the first victims of Nazi aggression. Well yes we were, but hundreds of thousands of us willingly participated in the mass murders and there was definitely historical antisemitism that fueled it. 2/n

I'm torn on the #AlfieEvans case. On the one hand, it's clear that he managed remarkably better than all the doctors expected when he was taken off ventilation (nine hours breathing by himself). The consensus was the deprivation of support would lead to rapid deterioration. 1/n On the other hand, when you read the medical evidence from the court case (from both "sides") it's clear that their is no cognitive brain function in Alfie and little chance it will return. Any "responses" from him are not even reflex. 2/n
