President-Elect Biden’s Victory

Doing anything last done by FDR isn’t easy. And while it’ll take time to process 2020, some results we have make a compelling argument: Joe Biden’s was the toughest of the four defeats of an incumbent seeking RE-election dating back 100 years. 2/

Economy

In 1928 Herbert Hoover faced what to this day was the worst economic period in US history.

In 1980 & 1992, Jimmy Carter & George HW Bush faced steep economic downturns.

While 2020 is devastating and the worst since the Depression COVID made it politically distinct.

.@SavannahGuthrie is showing exactly how to handle donald trump. A huge tell he’s intimidated by @SavannahGuthrie is that he hasn’t barked “excuse me” at her.

6 months 28 days since trump was rushed to the hospital without explanation.

Which is in itself an explanation. Struggling with the water glass was telling.

But what was on full display today was his longtime balance problem.

Specifically: negotiating stairs, slopes, ramps, uneven ground. All caught on camera on multiple occasions.

These are all symptoms of 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘆𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀.

trump was taken to the hospital EIGHT DAYS AGO.

@drsanjaygupta: ‘What happened is unusual: an unscheduled hospital visit for very routine testing could‘ve been done at the White House... took everyone by surprise, including much of the hospital staff.’
cnn.com/2019/11/24/hea… “We know that Trump is 73 years old, has heart disease and is clinically obese. For any man of that age and medical history, an unexpected visit to the hospital is concerning.”

This can’t just be the horror of the day with a new one the day after and the day after and in a week someone jokes “I’m old enough to remember when.” It can’t be added to the pile.

It’s its own category.

And yes, I’ve been paying fucking attention.
One would normally say it will take someone being killed before something is done.

But getting someone killed is exactly its purpose. It would be their mission accomplished.

Giving @TheEllenShow shit for this is a new low in rabid puritanism.

People really aren’t sure where Ellen stands? Are they not sure where Mrs. Obama stands: elle.com/culture/celebr….

Grow up. I for one have had enough with Ellen, Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga. They have all deceived us long enough as secret war-criminal enablers! Expose them all!

You still don’t get how feckless Congress is. Nadler needs to be let off the leash. Give him free rein. He knows what to do.

trump CONGRATULATED Poland on the day they remember the Nazis invading their country.

If ⁦@JoeBiden⁩ said it the media would pounce. But we’ve become so inured to trump it’s shrugged off.

Subject trump to the same analysis.

Or get off Joe’s back.
washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/… Oh look, trump got hurricane severity wrong. And that time he pressed for 6G. Hardy har har. Isn’t his decompensating right in front of eyes an adorable peculiarity? Definitely not a sign he’s dangerously lost his marbles.

The belief trump only licenses his name on buildings is wrong.

He owns all 17 golf clubs. As usual he overpaid for them, spent lavishly on improvements. All but DC hotel are underwater needing new cash.

A Ponzi scheme.

It lost its Madoff when trump left. Hence, G7-type abuses. Overspending was going on before 2017 — but accelerated after because his proprieties were disproportionately in blue states.

So the idiot sons —unable to beg, borrow & steal like daddy madoff— had a genius idea: expand to red states like...

Mississippi!

.@espiers nails what’s going on with @SpeakerPelosi.

Spoiler: it ain’t 3D chess. .@SpeakerPelosi will speak later about a majority of House Ds wanting to impeach. My guess:

‘I encouraged my Members to speak out. But this isn’t a vote. We won’t impeach — or not impeach — for political reasons. We will follow the facts.’

[Subtitle: I‘ve got tons more excuses]

Problem: Too many candidates, not enough time.

CNN Solution: Burn 10 minutes over-produced pageantry, immediately take a commercial break, kill another 12 minutes with needless opening statements, ask first actual question @ 8:23pm.

Other than that off to a great start. Guessing CNN’s halftime show will kill another 15 minutes.

.@PattyMurray (WA) is the 3rd highest ranking Senate Democrat. Not a House Representative, but still significant a member of leadership has come out in support of impeachment.

This comes on the same day as four House members from the Washington (State) delegation came out too. Nearly half of the 235 Dems in the House have bucked leadership to call for impeachment. Hitting 118 will be a milestone — but only psychologically. The Speaker isn’t bound by a majority of her caucus, nor has she called crossing 51% meaningful.

Mueller’s testimony would be consequential no matter what.

But it shouldn’t be make or break.

Shouldn’t be the first in months.

Shouldn’t be the last on the horizon.

This moment has taken on an urgency only because Speaker Pelosi has prevented the House from doing its duty. 1/ Thread of pre-thoughts:

NEWS: Of course there will be new things said today. Even if it’s all in the report nobody read it. Not to mention dozens of others participating. Media doesn’t conclude bombshell days with, “Well, that was boring — weather and sports after the break!”

Short thread on the harsh reality of Congressional power.

The 99.9% of Americans who’ve never worked on Capitol Hill are in the midst of a brutal civics lesson on the limitations of Congress’s enforcement options.

As part of the 0.1% here’s a Schoolhouse Rock explainer. 2/

In simplest terms, start with the “I’m just a bill and I’m only a bill” song.

Congress writes laws.

The Constitution didn’t give it its own Army or FBI or IRS to enforce the law. That falls to the Executive Branch.

When it’s the Executive breaking the law, it gets dicey.

Let’s face it. trump’s getting away with everything. We have a constitutional remedy to get in his face with, but bicker about it incessantly.

Instead, we‘re banking on people foolish enough to vote for him once not being stupid enough to vote for him twice.

Oh, and he’s inviting every Tom, Dick & Xi to pull a Putin.

Great plan.
