Over the past few months I have been trying to keep a tab on the MANY failings of the AB Government and the AER when it comes to regulating fossil fuel development in a responsible manner. I think it's about time to start a THREAD: [1/n] 🧵 #ABLeg #ABPoli #CDNPoli The AER’s abysmal response to the leak and spill of tailings at Imperial’s Kearl Mine by withholding information from impacted Indigenous communities for nine months. #ABLeg #ABPoli #CDNPoli [2/n]aptnnews.ca/featured/every…

We paid off our car yesterday, which means it's been 5 years since we purchased our lil Chevy Bolt. A few thoughts after five years with an EV: 1) Car dependency sucks & we shouldn't push people into private car ownership (and debt) for the sake of just basic mobility. [1/n] 🧵

We wouldn't have been able to afford the Bolt without large ($10K) subsidies from BC and the federal govt. BUT, those subsidies could have been put towards expanding public transit and/or active transit infrastructure (protected bike lanes etc.) instead. [2/n]

Over the weekend I was belittled by someone who claims that I don't talk enough about Alberta's very low resource royalties. While it's possible I don't speak enough about the issue, I'm always surprised when folks feel the need to antagonize or alienate potential allies. [1/n]🧵 There aren't nearly enough people doing this work in AB & I know that we need to work together to resolve any of these problems. Collective, organized action is the only way to build meaningful social change. I’m new on the scene and just trying to figure out ways to help. [2/n]

Just learned about this slide deck from the Government of Alberta on 2024 Drought Risk and Management where their strategy essentially amounts to hopes and prayers instead of suggesting alternative solutions to keep water IN our rivers. Link: #ABLeg alberta.ca/system/files/e…
Image One alternative could be reducing water withdrawals. Since 2006, the South Sask. River Basin (SSRB) in southern AB has been closed to new water licenses because of over-allocation. And right now, irrigation districts "own" 68% of all the water allocated within the SSRB. #ABLeg
