I need everyone to understand that we have been tricked into believing that SNAP recipients, aka people living at EXTREMELY low incomes, receiving ultimately very small sums of money for FOOD, are a problem. This is the MAXIMUM you can received based on household size.
If we can afford a $778 billion military budget, we can afford to FEED PEOPLE.
Most people don’t understand how little money you have to make to be eligible for SNAP. Your entire household income must be less than 130% of the federal poverty wage. Look at this chart:

I’m gonna keep shouting this regular reminder from the rooftops: a major overhaul to the public service student loan forgiveness program happened last year and they are retroactively crediting years of service but ONLY if you apply to have your case considered by October 2022.
If you
1)have federal student loans
2)work in the public sector
The remaining balance will be forgiven after you’ve made 10 years of payments.
This process was almost impossible to navigate until this fall when it was streamlined & many baffling disqualifications were removed.

This is like my entire teaching philosophy summed up into one tweet.
I tweeted this in the morning when I didn’t have time to elaborate but I do really mean this.
A hill I will die on is that I will ALWAYS design my courses in a way that’s flexible for students who need it rather than focus on who’s going to take advantage.
