Okay, so some of you might be a bit confused about what has been going on in Bolivia 🇧🇴 lately. This thread will try to explain the colonial history and context, how Evo Morales successfully broke with that tradition, and how this right-wing coup was able to seize power again.
What is now Bolivia was once inhabited by the Tiwanaku and Incan people. When the Europeans came, bringing slavery and genocide, Tupac Amaru II (one of my favorite historical figures) fought back. Sadly, he was unsuccessful. (Yes, California's Tupac was named after Tupac.)

So here is what's happening...
1. Neoliberalism is failing, and people are getting upset.
2. The violent/extreme right-wing is responding with ethno-nationalism, and a harsh crackdown on those impacted by global capitalism.
3. The wealthy and the media support no. 2 because 💰
This same exact story played out just a few years ago in Hungary, and it brought right-wing extremist Viktor Orbán into power. Look him up, and do some research on how he took power.

As an initial matter, there was a United Nations report on the Venezuela sanctions, which bluntly stated that the "economic sanctions kill" Venezuelans. The full report itself is very readable. web.archive.org/web/2019013020…
