(1/6) New #OpenAccess article in J of Experimental Criminology: “Staggered Deployment of Gunshot Detection Technology in Chicago: A Matched Quasi‑Experiment of Gun Violence Outcomes” w/ @ntconnealy & crew . Research brief available @ doi.org/10.1007/s11292… bit.ly/gdt-chi-preven…
@ntconnealy (2/6) This study used a staggered synthetic control design to test the gun violence prevention effect of GDT. Chicago’s system expanded from 3 sq-miles to ~136 sq-miles between 2012 to 2018. The analysis tested GDT effect in the overall, initial, & expanded deployment periods.

(1/5) In addition to generating healthy debate this tweet demonstrates the benefit of Green Open Access, specifically in terms of increasing public reach. In ~30 hrs since I tweeted this the version of record has been viewed 19 times; the OA postprint has been viewed 174 times
(2/5) No one emailed me to ask for the paper bc a public version was readily available. That’s why “email me if can’t access the paper” proclamations, while well meaning, miss the point. Spend 10 minutes to make a postprint OA if you want the public to access to your research

(1/7) New article in Policing: “Gunshot Detection Technology Time Savings & Spatial Precision. An Exploratory Analysis in Kansas City” w/@da_hatt Carter, Baughman & Mohler doi.org/10.1093/police…#OpenAccess postprint & research brief available at bit.ly/kc-gdt-precisi…@NU_SCCJ@da_hatt@NU_SCCJ (2/7) The study analyzes the time savings and spatial precision offered by GDT as compared to calls for service. Time savings measures the number of seconds between the GDT alert and CFS. Spatial precision measures the distance between the GDT and CFS locations.
