This is an explainer about what just happened with Anthropic's Fable 5 (Mythos) & the fed government. It's a cautionary tale about AI & a story of the fed govt's hypocrisy:

1/ Anthropic's Fable 5 (based on Mythos 5 model with 'strict safety' added) was just released on June 9 2/ Fable 5 had really high per-token cost. It was intended for pros, not everyday use, and was advertised as having incredibly strict safeguards. Strict safeguards sound expensive to build?

Here's my promised explainer. Doing my best to synthesize a lot of info here so check all my info; don't rely on it
So - the SpaceX IPO (SPCX:NASDAQ)

1/ Normally, a company with a massive valuation has to wait months to a year after its IPO before index funds are allowed to buy 2/ This seasoning or cooling-off period lets the market watch how the stock naturally trades. To bypass this, index providers rewrote their rule books specifically for this listing. Here's how that happened:

🧵YES. It is. I debunk this ridiculous piece in this thread.
1/ the lie (from the usual source): Image 2/ He conflates freshwater with potable water to get at his stat and leaves out gas turbine cooling in order to decrease the amount of water most AI datacenters require by about 70%. Image

OK, new post of this with the key info about Kevin O'Leary's 40,000-acre Stratos project bc I let my annoyance with the bad faith get in the way of the points. Here we go:
1/ No. Stratos is not at all likely to add any new jobs in Box Elder, as datacenters need specialized skills Image 2/ O'Leary's team claim 2K permanent jobs but hyperscale centers in op today employ far fewer
The tax benefit - absolutely non-existent. Utah's MIDA that pushed this through benefits. The county doesn't. And the project received massive tax cuts. Image

1/ By now, you've seen the video of this place making a loud humming at night. Why is it listed as a oil and gas company when it's a (hyperscale AI) datacenter?
Let me tell you why. Image 2/ The local electric supplier, Dominion Energy, literally ran out of capacity to power new buildings. To keep this VA2 campus running, Vantage couldn't wait years for new transmission lines. Instead, they installed massive natural gas turbines to generate electricity on-site.

Ben Smith, editor in chief of Semafor, just said that “Mahmoud Khalil is in some ways less vulnerable than Jimmy Kimmel.” Chris Hayes brushed it off saying “well, he’s being deported but anyway, yeah.” I can’t believe I just watched this. Jimmy Kimmel having to stay home and count his money is somehow worse than Mahmoud Khalil, a lawful permanent resident, being sent back to Syria, which he left after two of his dissident friends were detained.
