The Bhinga State at first, belonged to Janawar Rajputs. The power of the state transferred to Bissen Rajput Bhawani Singh (younger son of Raja Gonda), close to the 17th century.

By the 17th Century, the Janawar Rajput Raja of the state was very displeased by the frequent raids of Banjaras. Unable to control it, he gave the possession of the state to Bissen Rajkumar Bhawani Singhji (due to his matrimonial alliance with Gonda State).
