The universally important implication here is that:

Feeling something is much more effective than knowing something.

How you approach a fast psychologically probably makes a big difference in reducing “suffering”.

You’re not starving yourself:

You’re helping your body heal. You’re giving your cells a rest to help rejuvenate. You’re treating your gut and tending your microbiome. Multiple day water fasting is as ancient as humanity and has been widely used before “modern medicine” to treat various illnesses.

It is not only a physical, but also a spiritual practice integral to many religions.

“According to you, the supreme good is sound physical health plus the confident hope that nothing will interfere with it in the future. How on earth, then, can you suppose that you have cut off Fortune's access? Your ideal might easily vanish into thin air at any moment… … Poverty, failure, low birth, loneliness, bereavement, physical agony, ruined health, paralysis, blindness, national collapse, exile, slavery… may easily befall even the wisest of men, since they are the products of chance, from which no man, however wise, enjoys immunity.

Reminder that if you think you’re being a “dissident” thinker by following some “contrarian” grifter de facto translating Kremlin TV propaganda info into English you’re on the same page with a Siberian grandma who *only* gets Kremlin TV as her source of information. To be fair, I shouldn’t have used “Siberian” because in fact Siberians are historically quite critical of central authority.

Let’s replace “Siberian” by “Dal’nozhopinsk”.
