OK, this is my wheelhouse. Not a 🧵but a STFU rant I wasn't planning on going on today. 1/

First of all, if you're going to flex, proofread. Been there. Or learn to spell.

Now, as a Black woman who's been married to a white man for over 3 decades, HA! 2/
I've heard this projection many, MANY, times. Exactly how do they think this privilege works? It didn't work when we've sold houses and every realtor advised we should take down our pictures. It doesn't work when people assume we aren't a couple. Like at

Let's dissect. Paul McCartney not only wrote the song, but has been explicit, for years, about its inspiration and tribute. I'll guarantee you with 99.9% certainty that this person is white. A whitesplainer has come to correct him. Sir. Paul. McCartney. 1/ 2/

Thoughts on this. Consistent with how way too many white people view racism, it is something that non-white and specifically Black people are expected to endure, not something white people are expected to stop doing. I find that telling. 1/ His message basically boils down to what I and I am very sure many many other Black people have heard forever: "toughen up". The burden is never on those who are engaging in racism to learn, grow, and heaven forfend...STOP. It's on us to become "immune" to it. 2/

The Jezebelization of Fani Willis 🧵

Because that's what yesterday was. People advocating for a man and his co-defendants...a man who has been found legally liable for sexual assault and who has another trial for covering up his payment to a porn star...can't 1/ fight based on facts or innocence so they turn, easily, to one of the oldest tropes available. The Jezebelization of Fani Willis. What was not at issue yesterday, were any of the facts that led a citizen group of grand jurors to indict them. But in Trumpworld, 2/

In re: Mormonism and the Trad Wife movement...I didn't want to hijack someone else's post so here are my thoughts based on growing up with LDS girls and spending many years in the crafting world. 1/ 2/
Honestly, I think the LDS portion of this is being overstated and two distinct things have been conflated. LDS girls have always been raised to be homekeepers and wives. So cooking, homekeeping, childrearing, has always been in the mix. If you know anything about

The Daily Sealion
If not every single day, then all too frequently, a Black person or other person of color relates a lived experience or comments on one shared by others.

Inevitably, we get sea-lioned by someone who has not, nor cannot possibly, have lived 1/ that experience.

What is Sealioning? 2/ Image

I didn't have time yesterday. I have time today. I'll use this as a jumping off point about touching Black people's hair. 1/ Image In re: this comment...guess what? We don't all have the same hair. Oversimplified, but our hair is typically classified in four types. Reality is "Infinite combinations, infinite diversity". So no, any one Black person's hair is not necessarily like another's and that's that. 2/

Dear white people who do this thinking it's a flex or a gotcha. It isn't and we know. It's not new news. It's not revelatory. Well, maybe about you if you think you discovered something heretofore unknown. 1/ Image Now, what I find hilarious is, that the same people who love to do this, never want to talk about how the REPUBLICAN party beat feet to abandon Reconstruction and enable the Southern Dems to implement Jim Crow and terrorize citizens you want credit for freeing. 2/

I don't like writing things like this because I always fear sounding patronizing or self-aggrandizing or something icky. But now more than ever, I feel like not saying something is the same "silence is complicity" that happens when anti-Blackness is discussed. #antisemitism 1/ I have never not known nor not had Jewish people in my life. Reagan led the backlash against the gains of the Civil Rights movement. He announced his campaign in Neshoba county, with a state's rights message. The county where Chaney, Schwerner, and Goodman were murdered. His racism was palpable. He validated white fear. 1/ He easily and willingly used racist tropes like his mythical "Welfare Queens" to reinforce extant beliefs among white people that Black people were living large. He failed to act to stem the rise of AIDS because "ick, gay men" while Nancy betrayed her gay friends. 2/

So Jason Aldean put into song the stochastic terrorism that has been used by white people to warn everyone not white and Christian to stay out of small towns, and is upset at the pushback? Sundown towns existed and this rhetoric, now set to music, has been used to threaten 1/ Black, brown, Jewish and Muslim people to know their place whether in the South our outside of it. This song could have been playing when Emmett Till was lynched or 30+ years later when James Byrd was dragged behind that car. 2/

Here's what we're not going to do. We're not going to pretend on the anniversary of the enslaved in Texas finally learning they were free, that white Christians weren't the ones who delayed that news.

We're also not going to pretend that denominations like the SBC 1/ weren't founded to maintain the institution and didn't fight integration and Civil Rights up to and including the present day.

Or that "good Christians" who may have opposed Slavery in principle, weren't the reason things like the AME denomination were formed due to racism. 2/2

And this is what it has always boiled down to. Too many white people do not see ending Slavery as something that was done because it was wrong to begin with. They demand Black gratitude. 1/
rawstory.com/c-span-junetee… We must always be thankful for their saviorship which was not about heartfelt commitment to ending Slavery, but about preserving the Union. That includes Lincoln who, as a man of his time, didn't view Emancipation as meaning equality for Black people. 2/

Thread. This came up in my own thread about it and I've seen it in others. I repeat. This is a "No True Scotsman" logical fallacy. The argument goes like this: "Well, they're not Christians / true Christians". The point is they think they are; they convince others 1/ they are; they use Christianity as a cudgel and a tool of guilt. The Christians who dismiss them as "not Christians" are simply washing their hands of them like Pilate.EVERY sect and denomination has another it points to as not really Christian.
