If these laws are passed, criminal trials & the entire criminal justice system will grind to a halt. It will take years and years for High Courts and the Supreme Court to figure out what the position of existing trials and the procedural implications of that will be. 1/n
In addition, the courts will have to examine and interpret each new section of the penal code’s replacement to see how it compares with its predecessor and what any changes mean for established lines of case law. 2/n

Stan Swamy is dead. Sudha Bhardwaj is still in jail. She has been there since August 2018. A lady who gave up American citizenship to fight for the rights on the underdog. A labour activist who dedicated her life to helping others and stood against the powerful to do so.

When she was arrested she was getting ready to teach a course at NLU Delhi. After her arrest she was honoured by Harvard. Even if you don’t agree with what she fights for, you must agree that our democracy is richer due to people like her. People that stand for principles.

I did pro bono work for two private hospitals in Delhi during the worst of the Second Wave. My sole task was helping the hospitals negotiate with the DHC supervised government mechanism for more oxygen. The fact was these hospitals got less Oxygen than needed. #OxygenAudit

The government officers, lawyers & amicus were exceedingly helpful but the fact was that there was not enough oxygen to go around. Everyday we were left scrambling for the next shipment of oxygen and thankfully for these hospitals it normally arrived in the nick of time.
