The journalistic profession is not coming out of this election campaign with its reputation enhanced. Please, give us some questioning (of candidates) &analysis of issues like the strategies for positioning Australia to expand its position as a smart, flexible advanced economy. We hear a lot about rebuilding the Tradie/TAFE sector, & that's great, but what we're not hearing much about is providing the training and opportunities for our brightest young people. We need them to think creatively, beyond careers in 'finance', but where are the jobs?

I've never been an enthusiast re vaccine passports doherty.edu.au/news-events/se…, I've had no role in formulating public health policy, & I've consistently written about possible alternative vaccines and their strengths & limitations #41-47, #90-96 doherty.edu.au/news-events/se… I've also written about how clinical trials work, and the pressing need for good, safe small molecule drugs and passive antibody therapies #66 - #77 doherty.edu.au/news-events/se… My role in this has been to try to help people access the underlying science re mechanisms & possibilities.

Science is international and Nobel Laureates like me are often elected as 'honoraries' of various National Academies. I have the greatest respect for the Russian biomedical scientists I know personally, both working within Russia and elsewhere. Russia has a strong history in 'public good' infectious disease research, particularly in influenza (a research focus of mine) where they pioneered the use of live attenuated vaccines given up the nose. Several top US immunologists grew up, and were initially trained, in Russia.
