Every day, I receive about 3-5 emails inquiring about PhD positions, and few get it right. Here are 10 tips for writing an email that resonates better with me and, I bet, many other faculty, too. Of course, some will have different thoughts, and I’d love to hear those too!
1. Target your emails. I guarantee you that “mass approaches” won’t work. In other words, take the time to identify a lab and customize your application.

Here are my top 8 sins (or don'ts) of peer-review. I prepared this list to share with my own students. I hope they’ll make peer-review a more positive, fairer, and more efficient process. Did I miss anything? Disagree with anything? Curious to hear y'alls thoughts.
👿#1: Don’t move the goal line. It’s simply not fair to add new points of critique during later rounds of the review bc it prolongs the review process unnecessarily.
