Hard not see Johnson's Resignation Honours List as basically one big "F*ck You" - to the prime minister, to his party, and, indeed, to the whole country. A Trump-style farrago of nonsense from start to finish. Pathetic. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…

This morning I'm mainly remembering that the last war we saw in Europe - albeit one too hastily forgotten about now and perhaps too easily dismissed as a civil war - lasted eight years (from 1991 to 1999) and claimed well over 100,000 lives, and saw over 2 million refugees. A couple of people (very constructively, I should add) made what I thought was a fair point about Kosovo's representation on the map above, so see next couple of tweets for better alternatives.

England, January 2022 - a likely story: THREAD Mrs Tim is cycling home yesterday after work and comes across a lady in her seventies lying prone in the road. A bystander is calling the emergency services but panicking a bit. Mrs Tim is a trained first aider so she agrees to talk to the call handler. 1/n

Proofing 'The Modern British Party System' by @PaulDWebb1 and me, so expect a few erratically tweeted bits and pieces as I go thread-style (just to make it more fun for me). First fun fact coming up 1/ In 1964, Labour and the Conservatives placed either first or second in some 93 per cent of constituency contests in the UK outside Northern Ireland (574/617). 2/

THREAD on how the parties will vote on the EU-UK TCA today: Will they simply ‘go gentle into that good night’? Or will they instead ‘rage, rage against the dying of the light’? ukandeu.ac.uk/is-the-brexit-… 1/ For the vast majority of the @Conservatives MPs (most of whom, remember, have either always been or have become Brexiteers), sheer bloody relief, along with a natural inclination to toe the party line and support their leader, will prove a powerful painkiller. 2/

THREAD highlighting some of the stats from our @ESRCPtyMembers survey of 1215 ordinary Conservative Party members, together with a representative sample of 1675 voters. More detail (including tables) at esrcpartymembersproject.org/2019/01/04/no-… 72% of grassroots Tory members, compared to 68% of Tory voters, voted Leave. 79% think we made the right decision in 2016 – including a quarter (26%) of the (23%) minority who voted Remain.

Love Corbyn. HATE Brexit? Here’s a thread highlighting some of the stats from our @ESRCPtyMembers survey of 1034 Labour Party members together with a representative sample of 1675 voters. 83% of Labour members voted Remain in 2016. And 89% think, in hindsight and irrespective of what they themselves voted in 2016, that the UK was wrong to vote to leave the EU.
