Part of what’s actually annoying me about the Catholic Twitter drag queen and trans discourse is that I personally am tired of Catholics claiming victimization status while cozying up with fascists. The church was not there for me in 2020. Instead, it courted literal white nationalists (while denying they existed). It largely made fun of my people who wanted and deserve real racial reckoning. ONE American bishop stood up for us. The others remained apathetic or criticized us.

Jesus Camp is on Hulu, so I’m going to watch it to retrigger all those great memories I had of going to Christian sleepaway camp…which includes manipulative campfire and and cabin discussions to share the worst things I’d done in an environment unfit to act as psuedo-therapy Despite all of that, I’m so thankful to GAWD my family was not Pentecostal

I’ll admit I haven’t fact-checked this point, so I don’t even know if the argument hold water, but the notion that Catholics should be less concerned about sex abuse by people who are trusted to act in persona Christi, who are there for us in our vulnerable moments, bc of public school teachers is stupid as fuck. There could be a stat saying professional clowns have an 85% abuse rate and it wouldn’t fucking matter.

Hi I’m a Black Catholic drag queens dressing up like nuns isn’t comparable to blackface and mammy cartoons. I’ll change my mind if drag queens start lynching or doing a mass genocide against our women religious.

Speaking of, maybe we could talk about priests abusing nuns 🤷🏾‍♀️ Glass houses for real

Many self-proclaimed Christians desperately need to embrace the established Christian concepts of contrition/penance and community reconciliation. Y’all be like “we all killed Jesus” and then act like you don’t know how to apologize to LGBT people for decades of cruelty. An incomplete list of our misdeeds against LGBT people:
-parents kicking children out of their homes, which is a serious dereliction of parental responsibility
-hypersexualizing all LGBT people even when there are many celibate and monogamous couples
-refusing community

Once again, LOUDLY, Hoteps and FBAs will claim that Black Americans are from anywhere BUT Africa. That smells like self-hate. Imagine being a grown, self-hating Black person.

And here we go! After dropping a conference table and having to wait several days for authorized care, here’s how much I get to pay for sitting down in a lobby, getting a scan on my leg, and talking to a doctor for 5 minutes to confirm it was severely bruised but not broken Real talk, I might straight up slap [redacted family member] who keeps saying insurance saved me money. No bitch, they overbilled because they’re greedy fucks. It’s not “saving” me anything to have to pay $2,000 for a bruise.

Pro-2A people aren’t serious when they talk about mental health issues after shootings, but I do wish more Americans understood that there are very few avenues to get mentally ill loved ones assistance without subjecting them to medical neglect in jail or abuse in a psych ward. / This has been very hard to accept, but my mom has a personality disorder. Her mental health doesn’t inherently make her violent. I know people in the same boat as her who are using their limited resources to go to therapy and be a good person for the people around them.

Since folks are tone-checking demonstrations again, here’s one you were very wrong about:

People are still litigating BLM protesters blocking the highway in Missouri after Ferguson. They were merciless accused of participating extreme, ineffective action. But it was justified 1/ Long before Mike Brown’s death, Black Ferguson residents faced intense racial discrimination and harassment at the hands of police. When Mike Brown died and the first wave of protests began, activists and citizen journalists in the community hoped the national media would

Speaking of forgiving murderers, I did a discernment weekend with the Daughters of Charity after reading how they and other sisters advocated against the death penalty for a Mississippi man who raped and killed their fellow sisters. The reporting on their actions following this horrific crime is powerful.

Here, they went out of their way to embrace and show love to the man’s wife in court.

I agree. And our next steps as a state should be to release an innocent James Dailey, commute the 300 people on Florida’s death row to regular prison sentences, and end this barbaric practice forever. innocenceproject.org/how-to-help-ja…

My PEN America mentee is out of prison!

Thanks to @PrisonRadio, he has a humane place to go that will support his reentry with community resources. And he’s been offered a job as a staff writer. So many people don’t get these chances, but they should. Deo Gratias!

The only group of people that needs comprehensive drug education more than evangelical Christian movie directors would be the people literally in charge of enforcing drug laws. Because damn. This is embarrassing. Since we’re here, shoutout to King’s Faith for my favorite Christian movie drug line. The cop in the movie told the main character that a kid “Cracked up on acid” in the park. 😂😂😂

The words private and public/government have no meaningful distinction in the prison industry. Both spheres work in tandem to strip away constitutional rights and perpetuate human rights abuses. Please let this list be burned into your brain forever. Noting that this list also covers corporate interests in immigration detention and prison labor.

For the uninitiated, Eric Schmitt is singlehandedly keeping an innocent Black man named Lamar Johnson in prison for a murder he only could have committed if he possessed the superhuman ability to travel 6 miles on foot in 5 minutes. -the real killers confessed
-the lead detective bribed witnesses
-the local DA wants to do the right thing

And Eric Schmitt thinks it’s his personal duty to keep Lamar in prison simply because he’s an evil bastard with a corrupted soul and no conscience
