A study undertaken by J Golding in 1999 reported that as many as two-thirds of victims of abuse (64%) developed post traumatic stress disorder of which symptoms can include: Recurrent memories (of the traumatic experience, flashbacks, nightmares, physical reactions to reminders of the traumatic event)
• Avoidance (talking or thinking about the traumatic episode, avoiding people or places that trigger memories)
