There is an argument now that Labour moving to the centre will help Labour get elected next time, like Blair did.

But how sound is this reasoning?

As the Tory party has gone so far to the right, there is now a space in the centre more than there has been for a very long.. 2/
Time. The trouble is, the centre isn't like the one we saw before Blair came to power. The Lib Dems are different and Scotland is different. The 'Labour heartlands' are different. The Blair era changed opinions. The Financial Crash changed things.

Remainers need to stop telling Labour it should join a pact & stand down in some areas as part of the 'Remain Alliance'.

The Lib/Lab vote is not interchangeable enough & hasn't been since the Tory/Lib coalition.
The result would be even more voters disenfranchised.. 1/ 2/
Every ordinary voter should be able to vote Labour, that is what the party stands for and that is important.

The other result, an unintended consequence perhaps, is that disaffected Tories have nowhere to go if Lib Dems have stood down. The Tory/Lab, Tory/Green etc vote..

@MattChorley Firstly, Labour has always said No Deal is unacceptable. They tried to prevent it using their queen's speech amendment last year & got substantial cross house support, but fell short because no Tories rebelled. They are going to try again soon. @MattChorley Secondly, Corbyn said he doesn't know how he would vote because it depends on what was on the ballot paper - which Labour can't control, only 'potentially' influence. Both he and McDonnell have said they would vote Remain (and reform) again.
