Yesterday I was able to attend this hearing and hear from an expert witness with 30 years of experience in perinatal mental health. She spoke about the research on late recognition and non-recognition of pregnancy as "rapidly evolving." 🧵 zanesvilletimesrecorder.com/story/news/loc…
She spoke both about the clear patterns among those who do not fully recognize their pregnancies and also that they are each unique. That pregnancy is so overwhelming and radical for the body under the best of circumstances, nevermind under traumatic circumstances.

"Are you saying we should let anyone get an abortion ‘Up Until Birth for No Reason?’"

Since folks are talking about the 13th Amendment and abortion, it’s worth clarifying something. The scholarship a federal judge is referring to on this doesn’t just compare forced pregnancy to slavery. It recognizes that forced pregnancy was foundational to chattel slavery. /🧵

“Who can’t get an abortion by 22 wks?!” is a question we’re hearing a lot as we ask CO to vote #NoOn115 which would ban abortion care at that point in pregnancy. First, this is a real question for many people and one I used to ask before I needed one myself. But we know why: 🧵
First it’s important to acknowledge that the question presumes we all live in equitable environments and we simply do not. And covid is really laying that bare for us, right? The truth is millions in America are without essentials like food, stable shelter and basic healthcare.
